Can each 'world' have its own .dat files?

If I have one world that uses the nations.dat and cities.dat files tha come with the game and one that uses a custom nations. dat and cities.dat files is there a way within the game to designate which files each world uses? Or do I have to manual change the .dat files when I change worlds (ex: renaming the nations.dat to ORIGINALnations.dat and the CUSTOMnations.dat to nations.dat)?

Each world has its own copy of the world data. It worked like that in 2006 too, iirc.

Bingo.

FWIW: "world" = "saved game"

You cannot have multiple "worlds" within a single saved game.

So an MLB champion can't play a hobbit league champion? I thought this game was supposed to be customizable. I want an All-Earth Championship!!

Sure, you could do that. Just make Middle Earth into a nation.

I know that. But within each world is there somewhere where we can choose what .dat is used?

I have a folder that has the original nations.dat and a custom_nations.dat. For one world is there somewhere that I can pick a path to the original nations.dat, and for my custom League world make a path to the custom_nations.dat. Or when I switch from the first league to the custom league do I need to go into that folder and rename the .dat files so the custom_nations.dat is now the "nation.dat"?

I'm not sure if this makes any sense, because no ones response seemed to make any sense to me.

But doesn't it look for 'nations.dat' not 'custom_nations.dat'? There can be only one 'nations.dat' per folder. I want to know if its possible to have multiple xx_nations.dat's per folder and then be able to choose one for each world.

Make sense?

So, you basically want to have two leagues in two different worlds that still take place in the same world save?

Why not just have everything in the original .dat file in your custom .dat file so you don't have to worry about referencing the original. The custom could have both the original and your additions.

Ahhh, maybe that's wher I don't make sense.

Two different world. Two different saved games. Two different .dat files.

One world uses nations.dat. The other world uses 'custom' nations.dat.

Previously when we wanted to switch from one world to the other we had to backup the 'nations.dat' so we could rename the custom nations.dat to 'nations.dat' because that's what the game looks for. It doesn't look for "custom nations.dat."

I am wondering if this can be changed so that we don't have to back up nations.dat or rename custom nations.dat.

Oh, now I understand.

Basically, you want to know if you can have two different nation.dat files.

Hopefully, a beta person can answer this because I obviously can't.

When a world is created all of the .dat's used during that creation are saved within that world's saved game folder?

I think I got my question answered in post number 2 but just did not understand.

OK.

There is one MASTER nations file, called nations.txt (along with cities.txt). This is stored in the database folder.

When you create a new game, those text files are used by the game to create a brand new nations.dat file that goes in your saved game directory.

So, each saved game has its own nations.dat file, but they are all based on nations.txt.

Thus, you CAN have different nations.dat files. The key lies in modifying the nations.txt file before you create your second league.

So:

a. set up nations.txt to match your first world
b. create first world (first world's nations.dat gets created)
c. edit nations.txt to match your second world
d. create second world (second world's nations.dat gets created)

This can be done in 2006 as well as 2007. They behave identically in this regard. The main difference is that in 2006, you cannot change your nation data after game creation. In 2007, you will be able to do so via an internal nation editor.

Thank you. I knew if I babbled on long enough someone would pick up even a crumb of what I was trying to say... if it helps any my wife has suffered through this same sort of thing many, many, many times in our short eight years of marriage.
