City Economic Info

I am trying to work out the world setup for my fictional league but would like to base it on the real economics of the cities around the world. Does anyone know where I can get this type of info?

There is a DB of the top 100 populated cities based on US census data from 1900-2000. Can't remember who made it but it's around somewhere...

For individual cities wikipedia is a good resource.

For international cities check out http://demographia.com/ and http://www.citypopulation.de

If you look up individual cities and countries in the Wikipedia, and you're willing to spend some hours following links to off-wiki sites, you can find GDP information for major cities. Since most teams draw from their surrounding area as well, you can (sometimes) get greater metropolitan area GDPs and/or state/prefecture GDPs to use instead.

That's what I did to set the market size for the teams in my Oriental Universe. The leagues are in Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and China. I went nation by nation and found the GDPs for the cities with teams in real life, except for China. There I found the six cities with the top GDPs and assigned teams to them (so Hong Kong, which doesn't have one in real life, does in my China League).

I listed all the cities from highest GDP to lowest for the entire universe. Cities with multiple teams (like Tokyo, which has five) had theirs divided by the number of teams. Any teams in cities with more than 90% of the highest modified GDP got '10' markets/80.1-90% got '9' markets/70.1-80% got '8' markets, and so on. The Shikoku Island League teams all became '1', as did the Big 6 University League (which I had to generate special financials for, it being a nonprofessional league). Other places also got special treatment, such as Taiwan which is so small that any road game is an easy drive away, so I just took the national GDP and divided by the number of teams. This gives me a uniform set of market numbers across the universe. A '6' in Korea is the same as a '6' in Japan or China.

But really all I want to do is play.

So I'll try harder to be patient and hopefully the board will be patient with me.
And yes, I am still continuing my campaign to promote adding a 'mass select' option to Out of the Park 10.

I've got a whole setup for comparative monetary values set up in '06 at the country level, but not the city level. If it helps, I can send you what I've got...if I can recover my hard drive later this week.
