It's your life and your gaming, and you can be just as silly as you like. But it just makes me cringe to read about it. I cringe even more when I have to listen to friends, relatives, and neighbors making fun of gaming because of some silliness that they read about online. Like Hobbit baseball.
For what it's worth, the SGCBL (aka Tolkien Baseball) consists of a handful of "serious gamers"* with the rest of the league consisting of people who were attracted to it solely because of the Tolkien facade. Many of those knew little-to-nothing about baseball before joining our league. Seriously- we've got owners who originally didn't even know what all the fielding positions were named, but who can now debate the finer points of setting a lineup. And we all have a blast- both the hard-core gamers and the in-it-for-the-silliness types!

Our league is a perfect example of how "being silly" can actually get more people interested in baseball in general and OOTP in particular. How can this be bad?

As for worrying about what other people think, several of us work at the same company, and we have great fun in discussing potential trades in front of co-workers because it's a great way to inject some humor into the office environment: "Excuse me for breaking up this discussion on TPS Reports, but I need to talk to Dawn about trading me Baldric the Cunning for Grunthos the Flatulent ..."

By the way- we just started a new season and still have a couple openings.

* I became a "serious gamer" back when I was in the Air Force in the early '70's and I discovered board wargames ... Avalon Hill, SPI, etc. Later I also got into RPGs (Traveller, D&D, Warhammer, GURPS). Somewhere in there I discovered APBA Baseball and once computers bacame readily available, I was on a seemingly never-ending quest for The Perfect Baseball Sim. Although I rarely do RPG or wargaming anymore (due to lack of time and energy, not interest), I still consider myself a serious gamer- and my closet full of games dating back to the early '70's proves it!

Only kind of. Explanation below... Frustration first.

Chalk me up as a third disappointed party here, as I was curious about this issue as well and it ended up evolving into a debate on the seriousness of someone who wants to play their league in a universe that may not be entirely identical to the one we currently live in. To ignore that group of gamers would be a serious, serious mistake by the gods of OOTP... and one they are too smart to make. As Markus himself has recently posted, the "fictional" baseball league seems to, in fact, be a (if not "the) primary method of play being discussed on the forums right now for v2007... no need for criticism because of ideas.

And Wolf? Before you attack the "seriousness" of wanting female FaceGen... my primary use and desire for it would be a brief historical simulation, leading into expansion and eventual creation of a mainstream real-world baseball league for women... using the historic World War II-era Women's Professional Baseball League (which, mind you, rests in the Baseball Hall of Fame and is considered a major movement and interest-builder for women's sporting in general, giving it plenty of historical relevance) as the inspiration and start for the league.

Don't be too quick to banish on an idea just because the initial suggestion(s) had a "silly" tone to it. Even historical players could make use of a tool like that... I completely agree that it's not remotely a priority for 2007, and not even a desperate rush for 2008... but I would love to see it in the game down the road if it's not too much of a resource drain.

Just like his previous incarnation, someone has control issues and keeps putting his foot (or paw?) in his mouth.

Don't listen to him. He's very silly.

In defense of The Wolf (as if he needed it), my impression was that he was 'attacking' HobbitGen, not female FaceGen. By this point, though, the entire issue has become muddy.

But really all I want to do is play.

So I'll try harder to be patient and hopefully the board will be patient with me.
And yes, I am still continuing my campaign to promote adding a 'mass select' option to Out of the Park 10.

I think the point still stands. HobbitGen would be about as realistic as half of the league ideas I see floating around these forums everyday.

I was pointing out that RackGen, PackageGen and HobbitGen were all really silly. I still hope that you are are joking.

Maybe not half, but surely as much as some.

It would put a hungry one at everyone's door, which would be very silly.

Babe Cam

I suggest Markus code in a "Babe Cam" for 2008. It will be a small overlay that ties directly to a folder that you can place any "Babes" you want to appear on the screen at intervals throughout the game. (I'll start mine with some of YankeePride's avatars!) Maybe he he can even code in a "Dude Cam' for the Mac users!

Sorry about the Mac crack, it was just a joke!
