Historical/Custom Leagues

I'm looking forward to the new release. I've played OOTP for a while, and what I like to do is create a fictional custom league (teams from the South, eg.) but use real players and start in, say 1970 or so and then import real rookies until i get to the future. I take over 1 team and then just play that team (I might want to join an online league once I get the hang of it, though).

Will i be able to do that with this new game? What databases are/will be available for that purpose?

To use real players, will I have to import a database with the MLB setup already in place or can i just import the players and create a different sort of league?

What about the financials, will I be able to tailor all the financials? I remember it took a number of hours in OOTP 6 to get the financials right and the stadium capacity, etc. right for all of the cities.

I've looked for the answer but I'm afraid my feeble mind hasn't been able to ascertain the information from all the volume of posts.

Thanks in advance!!!

Sure, you can do that. There should be a bunch of databases, from the standard Lahman to the heavily modified versions of it.

There are a few ways to go about it. You can import a particular year and then edit the league structure to whatever you want and have it move forward from there with whatever setup you desire. That's probably the best way.

You could actually do all this in the 2006 version, so I don't think you'll have any problems.

Yes, you could do all this in 2006… but it took a number of hours. There has been mention by the beta team of work being done on the financials, but how much and to what avail, I know not.

Unless you're doing historical, for which I believe there are stadium mods available, I think you're going to have to resign yourself to entering the values you prefer for seating capacity, field dimensions and park effects manually.

But really all I want to do is play.

So I'll try harder to be patient and hopefully the board will be patient with me.
And yes, I am still continuing my campaign to promote adding a 'mass select' option to Out of the Park 10.

Thanks for the help. I'm comfortable with putting some time in to customize my league (2 8 team leagues/divisions) and financials (only smallish town teams).

I didn't play 2006, the last version I played was OOTP6. I remember it took a long time to import a league (Lahman DB), manipulate the stadiums and teams and all the financials. I was just hoping it wouldn't take more than a few hours to accomplish.

Anyway, thanks again.
