Gambo 2007 DB ver 1.5 available...

I have sent an updated version of my DB for OOTP 2007 to modsquad and PadresFan's site and they should be available soon.

For those who are unfamiliar with this DB it is designed to import players during their 1st pro season instead of during their 1st major league season. This is the 1st Database to be designed specifically for use with OOTP2007 new feature to "Recalculate player ratings each year".

* this database has been tested with 2007 and works excellently. Take care to read to readme for how best to use it.

A final note which I omitted from the readme is that if you intend "draft" the rookies each year the draft date should be set to after the regular season. Otherwise players will import a year previously to when they actually did. (this is part of the game's features and not an issue with the database as this will be the case also when using the original Lahman DB.)

Quick Question, Gambo.

1: When you say first full pro season, what about players who are redrafted? Say a guy was drafted in the 17th round out of high school but doesn't sign and got drafted later in the 3rd round out of college. Does it reflect his college "draft" year instead?

first pro season and first year drafted i assume are very different. i'm pretty sure only players who play at least 1 game in MLB will show up in the drafts. So prospects for this season even though signed, won't be in the database...

Gambo - Version 1.5 is now live on my website. Should I take down the original version?

Padres Fan to save space take the old one off for now...

Every player will import in their first pro season in which they played for a major league organization.

For example Bo Jackson
http://www.baseball-reference.com/j/jacksbo01.shtml
will import when he was drafted by the Royals in 1986. The 1st team he signed with. As much as I would love for him to automatically go to the Yankees in 1982 that won't happen. No the Angels in 1984

another example
http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/mattido01.shtml
will import in 1979 with the Yanks

This information is as complete as the transaction DB used by Baseball-Reference,Retrosheet etc. will allow. For pre-draft (1965) players I go when they 1st signed with a "Major League Team"
example:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/d/dimagjo01.shtml
Dimaggio will import in 1935. The 1st season he was in the Yankees organization. (Not 1934 because he was signed after the season and not when he 1st played in the Pacific Coast League - information I don't have)

But really all I want to do is play.

So I'll try harder to be patient and hopefully the board will be patient with me.
And yes, I am still continuing my campaign to promote adding a 'mass select' option to Out of the Park 10.

yes it can. With 2006 I'd just use the import file and not worry about the yearly file because the game will default to player progression via the game engine.

If this type of experience is what your looking for. My ver 4.0 with last years was a Career Avg database. The bonus is that it has negro leaguers in it. The downpart is that is isn't as complete. 3.75 or 3.9 from last year is without the negro leaguers.

Don't mind me being dense, but is this a regular roster file that I can d/l (once I have the game) and go?

No Problem! (except the whole Met thing)

Unfortunately it is a database that can be used to import any historical season.

Oh, ok. Do you know what will be up in terms of regular rosters? This historical league idea seems pretty cool, too, where would I get older rosters? And, it's OK, I know you're jealous of our rotation .

You can use the database to get the rosters. It is actually my preferred way of playing historically. Roster files are the best way to get the most current rosters available, and I'm sure there will be some available close to release.

Does 1.5 have Negro Leaguers in it or not? That was always my favorite addition in your DBs.

I love the historical databases because I can go back to 1985 when the royals won the world series and hopefully keep them good for years to come

How long does it take to important all the historical information? I'm importing 1985 as we speak with all the years before it and it is taking quite some time. This is normal, correct? I would expect it to take forever because of all the information it has to go through.

1985 imports are long. The closer to 2007 you get, the more it has to import. 2006 imports are miserably slow. However, 1901 imports are done in about the time it takes to brush your teeth.

By long do you mean several hours? I'm at 42% importing players. I started like an hour ago or so.

I feel sorry for people with slow computers.

Which is why I'll import anything past WW1 while I'm sleeping.
