Inside The Park Functionality?
Is there functionality in the game to convert a retired player to a coach? I'm thinking along the lines of following a player's career from draft to retirement, and then into the world of coaching. If the person is lucky, there could be a 40-50 year career in the making in baseball....
But of course, this works only if you can control if a retired player can become a coach...

I have done extensive testing on this since the issue was reported that players were not turning coach in great enough numbers. As of the last build, if you run a 30-year sim with the default MAL setup, 50% of the coaches are former players.
![]() There is no way to force a player into becoming a coach, yet, and though you can push a button on the coach's profile to see his former player profile, you can't go the other way (this has been TT'd). I do know that in the coaches.csv there is a former_player_id column. Don't know why the player one doesn't have the coach id in it.

I remember a v.2006 league I started in 1980. Twenty years later I was looking at the personnel pool and noticed Bruce Bochy as a manager. It took me a few minutes to realize how strange this was, that this light hitting player actually became a manager just as in real life!
