I do a little of both. I usually get my lineups setup by playing out a few early games in April to really get a feel for which direction my team needs to go in order to be successful in the standings. I then will sim until something changes in my roster (FA, rookie callup, etc.), play some games out w/ my new team that way I don't feel like I missed something about my team. When I used to sim exclusively during OOTP3 it was fun but now it's different. I have personal relationships with my players and this makes trading players very difficult not like before.

One thing I would definately use would be a highlights pbp recap of the entire game in one paragraph.

Top of the 9th, 2nd & 3rd...Texiera riffles a ball up the middle! WAIT! Orlando Cabrera out of nowhere makes an incredible stop & flips to AK! GAME OVER

Now someone good rewrite what I just wrote but In highlight form.

Or does the game already have a one-click highlights pbp ?

In my current sim, I'm the GM of the Atlanta Braves, and we're doing really well. In the 3 years I've been there, I've been to the playoffs 3 times, and to the World Series once. I'll typically only play out the critical playoff games, and let my management team handle the rest.

I'm in the same boat as Stu, I hardly ever "manage" a game, but I do watch them. Although, I might give the one-pitch mode a try.

Since I always create myself, friends and family in the game, and put them in the minors, I usually sim until they make the majors, then play a game a week until the playoffs, then play all playoff games if I make it in.

In 6.5 I played out every game.

2006 took so much longer to play games out that I switched to playing the games on even-numbered days and simming odd-numbered days.

I think I'll stick with that for 2007. It lets me be involved in the day-to-day managing of the team while also allowing me to get more seasons under my belt.

In the 2007 MLB league I'll probably sim the first few years - playing out games with the 2007 Royals will be painful.

I play out my teams games. I sometimes sim historical leagues in GOD-mode.

depnds on my setup

I've never been one to do historical sims. Now I may. Under this scenario, I would just let the sim run, and see what happens.

Normally, I like creating my own fictional leagues, with real players. Under this scenario I would play out my teams games, and maybe some others depending on how I set the league up.

I may actually, fianlly jump into a completely fictional league too. Here, I would probably pick out certain game to play day to day, and sim the rest.

Games would always be played in one pitch mode.

Sim one game at a time, then check the box score and manage injuries/waivers afterwards. At least, that's how I do it in 6.5.

I can see the appeal of playing games out (you get to know your players far more, for one), but my problem is that I'm a sore loser and tend to angrily CTRL+ALT+DEL out of games when I'm getting shelled or have surrendered a huge lead. With simming, I just click one button and the game is permanently decided. A little silly perhaps, but it works for me.

I usually play out my teams games unless I fall behind and then will sim to catch up. I will swap out another pBp if it's a better match-up than my teams.

Am I wrong or is there no way to exit a game once you've started other than the three finger salute (Ctrl+Alt+Del)?
