I plan to play out a game, and if I lose the game, get angry and simmer for awhile.
When I sim, I generally sim a couple of weeks at a time, stopping the sim in the event of serious injuries.

I play out all my games...debating if I will sim 10-20 seasons to build up some history before taking over a team.

I've borrowed a lot of ideas over the years to come to the system that works for me: When the season begins I sim the first 5 or 6 innings (depending on my pitcher) and then play out the rest of the game. I do this until I am either in first by 6 games or out of the playoffs by 6 games. At that point I sim a week at a time until the season ends or the gap narrows. With 2006 I took over the worst team after a few quick sim years in a fictional league, and 8 years later I haven't been able to turn them around!

I guess my cup of tea is to act as a GM, building a team and seeing how they do, rather than acting as a manager.

I used to play out every game but in the end I've decided I wanted to run the off season aspects more often. I've tried short season leagues and never seem to get things (revenue, development) working correctly.
Ideally I would like to play every in division game and sim the rest. Then play out important games down the stretch and into the playoffs. For me I need to play enough so that I get to know each of my players very well or the game isn't worth playing. I want to pick up a FA not only because of his stats and ratings but also because I'm tired of him killing me in the bottom of the 9th. ![]()

Same here. One thing I do however, is check on things and make adjustments pretty much every day. Usually minor strategy adjustments, replacing injured players, checking waivers, checking transactions and news around the league, etc. I don't sim multiple games at a time.

I plan on simming about 30 years to get some history and then take over a team. After each simmed year, I plan on going over the results and stats enough to get an idea of what happened that year and build up a knowledge of the history of the league. Once I take over a team, I will sim a week at a time. Come playoff time, I'd like to play out every game.

I almost always play out opening day and all playoffs games, but sim the rest. From time to time, I do play out a game or two throughout the season on a whim.

When I first started with OOTP in version 5, I was a strict simmer. Since then I've mostly played games out. At the very least I'll start playing out a game to set up the lineups the way I want them and then sim the rest or sim to a certain inning. It varies.

I have a few different modes of play that I use, depending on my mood. I usually sim out a history for the league before anything. Then I take over a team. The first season, I try to play out as many games as possible. This gets me to know the team well and develop ideas about particular players. From then, there are a few different ways I'll play, in declining order of commonness:
- Sim one day at a time, looking over the boxscore in detail afterwards. - Pick out a starting pitcher to "follow" and play out his games, simming the rest. - Play out occasional games, simming the rest. - Simming at a relatively fast pace, like a month or even a half year at a time. - Continue playing out all games.
