It's funny, I got the opposite impression. The references to OOTPB 2006 struck me as hearsay or a weird third person usage. It seems that he didn't play it much but just "knew' that it was not that good.

However, at the risk of contradicting myself, he nailed it in his summary paragraph:

Although it still looks like it's being catered to baseball stat fanatics, Out of the Park Baseball 2007 is shaping up to be one of the most realistic and elaborate simulation games to date. Learning from last year's mistakes, the team behind Out of the Park is promising a lot of improvements which really seem to be coming through in the preview build we played.

Note to Marc Duffy; perhaps a blog should be written to emphasize that a simple MLB model with three levels of minor leagues is easy to set up for the non-stat fanatic.

Often times I think p/reviews are better done by people completely new to a game. If you're already familiar with a game you're probably going to rely more on the opinion of hardcore users. I think p/reviews on sites like this cater more to prospective customers and for them it's probably better to read the opinion of someone similar to themselves. Otherwise you're more reading about improvements over a previous version which really doesn't register for you when what you're looking for is more of an overall feel and answer to whether the game is actually fun. I didn't get that message from this article. It didn't even seem like he thought about trying to answer that question.

I was thinking more from an angle of "at least he didn't say anything factually incorrect about the game simply because he didn't discover how do do something in the ten minutes he played," which is how some past reviews of the game have seemed to me.

From what I remember they well written and very detailed, but they are constantly re-used, so you will keep reading them again and again. Think of them as similar to the old scouting reports in ootp, only longer.

they probably are reused but they have pictures of the players and game or season specific stats incorporated in the stories. keep in mind i'm comparing them to ootp6 or 6.5, as i haven't seen the new ones in 2007. it gives it a newspaper feel, which is nice

there is something to be said about simming 100 years in 49 seconds, even if the results arent perfectly realistic.

personally, i think BM is excellent for what it is trying to be - a casual, cheap, simulator for a sports fan. its not meant to cater to a hardcore baseball rule/stat freak.
