New to OOTPB and question about historical
I'm new to OOTPB this year as well. Have had a great time with Football Manager and as a huge baseball fan (and coach), I've loved the demo to this point and can't wait for the full release.
One quick question. I'm planning on doing a historical sim with my beloved Cubbies. With both the Lehman and assorted modified databases, they put in historical players in the free agent/rookie pool when they debut, correct? Say a player debuts in real life in 1952, he'll be put in the pool prior to the beginning of the '52 draft? Thanks |

It depends on the database, but essentially, yes.
Some databases will put a player into the amateur draft in the year he was really drafted. Others will put a player into the draft in the year he made his major league debut.

Make sure to change the draft date to November instead of the default of June 30 so that they come in at the right time.

Just as a side note, the game can dump incoming players to a draft pool, but it can also assign incoming players to the teams they really debuted with. It's an option when setting up the league.
Of course, I base that entirely on OOTP 5-2006, having not actually seen 2007 yet.

Correct. It's in 2007 as an option, same as before.

Let me ask a question through an example: If I start a historical game in 1901 and set players to automatically import to their proper teams, what happens in 1961 if I DON'T expand? Will the players for Anaheim and Washington enter a draft pool (I hope)? Become free agents? Just not enter the game?

Good question. I would hope they would wind up either available for a draft or as free agents.

But what happens in 2007? Is it the same thing?
