Historical Databases

I'm not sure if this has been brought up or not..

I intend to sim out history up to the 1969 season and take on the brand new KC Royals. I'm wondering since Lahman database isn't the best in the world, if there is either a new or existing Gambo/Ankit.. or other database recommended to use for this purpose. And also, I haven't noticed it yet, but will there be a sticky thread for new mods and roster sets.... Thanks in advance..

Lahman is pretty darn good. Gambo/Ankit is better, in that it includes more players and has normalized versions, but it's still based on Lahman.

I've used Gambo/Ankit in the past for all my historical sims, but with the advances made within the game (recalc., etc.) is it still necessary to use the Gambo database as opposed to the plain old Lahman?

With the new recalc and auto league modifiers, Lahman works pretty well. However, I'm partial to Arod/Garlon and Garlon was on the beta team with us. I like his because he includes Negro Leaguers, smooths out the outfield position issues and more.

But you're going to be happier with how OOTP 2007 handles Lahman.

Sticking with Gambo and he has tested his database and modified it with 2007 version. Of course I may be slightly prejudice, but I have played with all versions and I think his implementation of players coming into the league when they were first signed and not when they made their Major League Debut is outstanding for playing a Historical League.

I do have a version (Gambo DB 1.5) which is available on modsquad and padres fan's site. It is designed specifically for 2007 "recalc player ratings for historical accuracy" feature. Of course my 4.0 version for 2006 is a career average DB if you dont want to use the "recalc" feature and includes negro league players which doesnt matter for post 1947.

The new version has over 1000 more players importing in their 1st professional season (such as Joe Dimaggio) and will also work without the recalculate feature.
