I was born and raised in Baton Rouge (live in Prairieville now) and I'd have to agree with your assesment of the lack of success for the Marlins/River Bats. LSU baseball was a dynasty in the '90s. In fact, they still regularly pack 7k-8k fans in the Box for a game. As far as a team nickname, I'd have to go with Pelicans (state bird as well as a former minor league team in LA). On a side note: I remember voting for said Governor, that you mentioned. I despised doing it, but then again, it was him or the former Grandmaster of the KKK. I was certainly not going to vote for him. Ahh Louisiana Politics.

well, IINM, the Utah Jazz used to be the New Orleans Jazz, where it fit quite well. some would even say that Utah DOES have a good connection to Jazz, but thats better left for an OT thread.
grizzlies? well they actually used to inhabit most of north america, west of the mississippi, but as humans moved in, huge animals with teeth moved out. it doesnt hurt that they also used to be the Vancouver team. edit: i vote for Red Sticks as well, even if that technically makes them the Red Stick Red Sticks

You could name them the Baton Rouge Hurricane Sufferers kind of like the Zanesville Flood Sufferers of the 1913 Interstate league.

First off, I forgot to mention in my original thread another fictional team. I just forgot to type it in but the other fictional team I have is called;
"Charleston Hurricanes". I'll add it in the original post when I am done with this one. Secondly, thanks! to everyone's input. I really appreciate not only the help but the comments, schooling (courtesy of EC regarding the Red Sticks team nick name), and caring about the topic. The only thing (or issue) I have with the "Red Sticks" nick name is if Baton Rouge means "Red Sticks" in French then essentially I am calling the team "Red Sticks Red Sticks", correct? Or am I missing something there? I like Cajuns or better yet "Ragin' Cajuns" a lot. I never even thought about that because Cajuns fits just right with that region. Thirdly, Silvam14 - those logos you posted in this thread are great man. You do some awesome work. Keep it up dude! Now that I buttered you up some, lol , maybe you could do a few Baton Rouge Ragin' Cajuns logos to see how they would look. I am not sure how one could do this logo. I assume you could always use the city initials "BR" and put in the team nick name underneath it. Heh, I wouldn't even know where to begin here. I believe the word "Cajun" is also French and it is what people called the French-speaking people who came to the USA from Nova Scotia. I know it has other meanings for food and I think it is even related to certain types of horses but for logo reference I would rather have it to where the logo is a mad looking man - maybe a "cartoonish" like guy where he is all fired up (and pissed off looking) with a piece of straw in his mouth (well, the straw doesn't have to be there as I am just simply shooting out ideas). Actually, I stopped typing for a few minutes while I was posting this and went over to silvam14s' logo site and went over to the "R" section under "generic logos". I found a few logos that would work great. The one says roughnecks which could be changed over to "Ragin' Cajuns" and the city in the backround could be removed or it could stay as long as it would flow with the teams colors which are (white, black, red - in random order. Of course red would be the primary color though). The other is a guy with the letter "R" on his hat. They both would work great though. The city's name "Baton Rouge" could be on top of the logo with it curving around the top diameter part of the logo. I'll post both logos. Tell me what you guys think? Personally, I think Ragin' Cajuns would be great; "Introducing the Baton Rouge Ragin' Cajuns"!!!! Yeah, I like the sound of that. ![]() ![]() .For the uniform the teams nick name would be across the jersey going convex. Then the letters/teams city initials "BR" could be on the hat with the B and the R joined together - where the "R" would be just below and to the right of the "B". Sounds cool so far heh!?! ![]() Comments are welcome. And thanks to everyone! Last edited by Kyros : 03-14-2007 at 09:00 PM. |

How's about "Bowden's" or something like that. I used to truck thru there a lot, and would always stop a joint on I-10. It's some kind of food. I don't know what all it was, but it sure was good, and I had a mess of them. It kinda has a flour tortilla shell, with rice and some kinda meat in it. Oh hell, just call 'em the "Poboys" It's to hard to explain what I was eating, could have been someone's cat for all I know.
