Need a name for one of my fictional MLB Teams
OK, so I have one team I just can't seem to name. I have logos for some of these names while I don't for others. Since 2006 I have yet to be able to stick with a good enough name for me to be happy with.
This is where you guys come in if you wish to help out. I have a 36-Team MLB league. I use all of the real MLB names except for the Bluejays (since my league is based in the US) and I have others that I used for my fictional teams - which is how I got up to 36 teams. The ones I am using for my ficitonal teams are as follows; Louisville Sluggers Las Vegas Aces Birmingham Razorbacks Bay City Bombers Lancaster Jayhawks Charleston Hurricanes Baton Rouge (This is where you come in!) I am giving you those team names just for reference sake if somehow you selected a name that was already taken in my league. So I decided to put up a poll for some help. Any feedback or help would be great! Thanks in advance!!! ![]() EDIT: If you selected "Other" and if you feel up to it, please post the name(s) you would use. ![]() Last edited by Kyros : 03-14-2007 at 08:57 PM. |

Baton Rouge is French for "red stick".
I don't know the history, but it seems Indians used red sticks as some kind of marker, perhaps to indicate a settlement. The French apparently named the town after the red sticks. Anyway, I like the name Baton Rouge Red Sticks. It ties in with baseball as a bat is referred to as a "stick". And Baton Rouge means "red stick". That was the name of a team in the wonderful old Evangeline League from the 30s, 40s and 50s. Baton Rouge Rebels would be my second choice. Last edited by Eugene Church : 03-13-2007 at 11:37 PM. |

Didn't Baton Rouge have a minor league team called the River Bats?

Here is the history of the name of Baton Rouge:
The city's earliest written records are found in the diaries of these explorers which tell the tale of a pole stained with blood of fish and animals that served as the dividing line between the Bayougoula and Houmas Indians. It is from this "red stick" that Iberville christened our city "le Baton Rouge." |

Yes, I gotta give props to cephasjames because all of his hard work finding them made it possible for me to turn them into the circular format.
I have been going to his site a lot for jersey and cap logos for my unis since they are not in circular format. EC, thanks for correcting me on the geographical usage, I just figured it was a big word down there in LA

The Baton Rouge River Bats played here. I saw many of their games. They were originally called the Baton Rouge Blue Marlins. A station I worked for broadcast their games. Both were very good independent league teams. Better than good college teams...better than rookie league teams...could compete in Class A leagues. Sadly they only lasted 3-4 years. No pro team can be successful in Baton Rouge. The fans only support LSU teams. Last edited by Eugene Church : 03-13-2007 at 11:49 PM. |

We have a lot of them in the state legislature.
![]() One of our former governors is serving 10 years in prison. It is sad to say, that if he could run for office, when he gets out, the voters would overwhelmingly elect him. In fact, they were trying to get a million signatures on a petition to get Bush to pardon him. (I don't think so...he was a Democrat...maybe if Hillary gets in, Bill will get him out...for a hefty speaking fee, of course, not a bribe) Quite a few insurance commissioners...three of them ended up in jail. It's still a good town to live in, inspite of the political corruption. Last edited by Eugene Church : 03-14-2007 at 12:02 AM. |

I know The actual Frenh word is Chevalier which means Knight. I have the Virginia Cavaliers in my league

Voted for Other - And I'll defer to the great wisdom of Mr. Church. Carousing through baseball teams of the past, many team names played on the name of the city they represented. So Red Sticks seems to be perfect for me among the others.

Can't get more regional than this, and think of the logo possibilities.
