TRTR : Day 21

Help! I need somebody

In 2006, there were a lot of concerns from the community about the interface and the difficult learning curve of the game.

Pointedly not claiming first. I'm looking forward to the tutorial on setting up an historical lague, and probably the interface and management ones. This just impresses me awesomely. Even if you can't pull it off (Paradox/VP's tutorials are broken), the mere fact that you've tried puts you light years ahead of everyone else.

But really all I want to do is play.

So I'll try harder to be patient and hopefully the board will be patient with me.
And yes, I am still continuing my campaign to promote adding a 'mass select' option to Out of the Park 10.

OOTP 6 had a grossly incomplete manual that really didn't even scratch the surface of that game. OOTP 2006 had a very large and detailed Game Guide, plus an abbreviated manual that shipped with the game.

Ever wonder what would have happened if battists had wrote The Divine Comedy instead of Alighieri? We'd have 42 circles of hell, that is for sure.

Good job on this, guys!

IMHO

And therein lies the rub. I'm one of those persons who has always believed that most of the online help is next to useless. I'd never buy anything by download if there was a written manual available in a boxed version, and I feel the same way about OOTP2007. Please refer to my previous references to the availability of paper manuals in this forum.

I'd like to see SI offer a complete written manual with everything currently available in the onscreen help section piecemeal in the download version. It certainly would be better organized. But, at an estimated 600 pages, I certainly wouldn't expect to get it at no cost. Perhaps an option to purchase that sort of manual at a reasonable price would be in order. That would certainly be more organized than 600 loose pages.

/IMHO

Do you call Dante by his surname in America then. I was about to comment that I thought the Divine Comedy was written by Dante but I googled and found his full name.

I love on-line help when it's in something I use. I can't stand coding on-line help and all that context sensitive stuff. Well done Battists on what you've done.

I claim nth because I can't be bothered to work it out.

It's Dante to me, and I'm in Canada, at least.

It's only Alighieri if you know him.

I'm in New Jersey, locked inside during an ice/slush storm, and when I saw that the TRTR was written by battists I thought, "Oh boy, maybe they'll release the manual!!"

But I got all excited for nothing.

In all seriousness, last year's game guide was SUPER. Well written, easy to follow, just great. I look forward to this year's version. Thanks to Steve for all his effort.

FWIW, since it's slushy and icky here, and I'm feeling like a wet blanket, don't expect a huge volume of tutorials on release day. There will likely only be a few (+/- 3?) tutorials at first, aimed largely at Total n00bs!11! (tm).

We'll do the best we can to get more out quickly, but many of the same resources are focused right now on the manual and the in-game help, which take precedence.

Thanks!

Steve

"We are also considering making the entire in-game help available outside of the game on SI's web site."

I would love to see this somewhere on the site.

I know there are more pressing matters at the moment but eventually.

And try to break it down into logical sections such as off the top of my head league creation, facegen, expansion, etc.

You're dead on here. It's still likely to happen, but not on launch day. Too many other fish to fry. Besides, who looks at the help in the first few days anyway?

(I mean, aside from me.)

Last year I pretty much read through the entire game guide before starting up the game. Any chance parts of it will be released before 3/22?

Don't take to long I wouldn't want to have to do it myself.

There might be a slight delay until mid April for some reason before I would even attempt to start though.

I was thinkin by June 1 or so not this week just to ease your mind Steve.

I am going to record every time I use f1 in the first few days.

Do posts have a character limit?

Please note I will not really attempt this by myself except for certain small sections that I need to remember where something is mostly. Is it easy to c/p a screenshot from a pdf to another type of document?
