Question Question for the betas — Mass Select

Many people posted suggestions last fall requesting ways to select and/or delete multiple players at once. Has this been incorporated into 2007?

But really all I want to do is play.

So I'll try harder to be patient and hopefully the board will be patient with me.
And yes, I am still continuing my campaign to promote adding a 'mass select' option to Out of the Park 10.

I know you can select 'delete all players' in the FA pool. Also, you can delete all players who never made it to the majors.

The suggestions (and there were several) were to be able to do things like click-and-drag a box around several players. Very handy when managing several levels of minors.

Ok. I see.

From what I've seen there's nothing like that included in this version. Perhaps the next.

Not sure this applies, but in the most recent version of Football Manager, you are able to more easily select multiple players and perform tasks on them (sounds kinda kinky :-). I only bring this up because it is clear that Markus relies to some extent on things SI is doing, and so perhaps this function is also part of OOTP 2007?

It is a nice sentiment, but everything I've read says it's still one by one (with the exception of delete all Free Agents IIRC) -- at least for now.

I don't have FM, unfortunately. If someone can describe, clearly, how the functionality in FM works that you want OOTP to copy, I'll log it for Markus to consider.

Please, be detailed. What key/mouse combination do you need to press to do this? Can you select a "box" of players, as someone mentioned? Does it work like Windows, where holding down SHIFT lets you select a series of players and/or holding down CTRL lets you select individual players from different spots in a list?

It's highly likely that I'll just paste whatever description someone gives into the database of stuff for Markus to look at, so the more succinct and accurate the description the better the chances that he'll be able to implement it.

Yes, like Windows, shift and ctrl work as you describe. I am not aware of any way you can use the mouse to draw boxes.

Most of the usefulness, I've found, comes from selecting a group of players and then pulling up the right-click menu in order to do something to all of them at once. For instance, you might want to move four particular players from the first team to the reserves, or set Players A, B, and C to heavy training. You select using shift/ctrl, then right click. (You don't need to right click, there are also menu options to do the same things, but I'm a right-click fiend.)

I'd be more detailed, but there isn't much more to it than what I've described here (unless someone with more knowledge than me knows other tricks, which is certainly possible!).

Hmm. Must be a Mac thing.

If I want to draw a box with my Mac mouse, I left-click slightly above and to the left of whatever group I want to include. Holding the left button down, I drag the cursor to slightly below and to the right of the group. You can see a transparent box draw itself around what you've selected, and as additional items are selected they change color (to whatever the 'selected' color is). When you're happy with what's in the box, lift your finger from the clicker. You can now perform functions on whatever is inside the box (same function for all). This is especially useful for the right-click or menu functions. Left-click will unform the box and deselect the group (reselecting whatever specific item you left-clicked on).

I hope that's clear enough. It's a standard Mac function. I sure could've used it tonight.

Drag-box selecting works in Windows, and is common in stategy games like the Age of Empires series, the Total War series, Civ, and so forth.

I've never seen any text sim make use of the function.

I may not have been clear ... or I may not understand what you're saying, both have been known to happen! I know how to draw boxes using my mouse in Windows, but I was speaking specifically to that function in Football Manager. I don't think you can do it there.
