Spring, Summer, Autumn & ?????
I have searched the discussion posts and it looks like the winter leagues really can't be set up to work as they do in real life at this point. Based on everything else that I am seeing about the improvements to BM2007 this is a minor issue but raises important questions when setting up my baseball universe.
It looks like the way to go is to bypass the winter leagues at this point. I am setting up a fictional 24 team American major leagues with full minors. I do want the international flavor so it looks like I can effectively set up the Japanese, Korean, Mexican, Taiwanese and Cuban leagues and have them operate and interact with my American league reasonably realistically. Does this sound right? Of course it would be great to have a working winter league at some point along with more playoff/tournament flexibility. |

You are correct that Winter Leagues cannot be set up to work as they do in real life yet. The key functionality missing is the ability to "loan" your players to a Winter League club.
As it works now, a Winter League club is simply a foreign league that plays in the winter - in order to play there, players need to sign full contracts with those clubs like they would any other league, completely severing ties with your own organization. Until Markus finds a way/the time to allow players to essentially be under two separate contracts at once, Winter Leagues won't be able to come close to modelling their real-life counterparts, unfortunately. - Kai

What I've done is created a minor league for my major league team that plays in the winter down in the Dominican, Mexico, Cuba, etc and then "demote" some of my top minor league rookies down there. I found it got rather laborious to do and that the AI player never did so my winter team tended to kick ass. I noticed however that some of the players who went made some rapid improvements but I'm not sure if that was more playing time or just something that was going to occur anyhow. Hopefully real winter ball will be in the next version.

Lots of good suggestions on the board today. Too bad there's no 'Suggestions' forum.

That's another good item to put on the 2008 list.

I disagree. Since so many people are waiting and thinking and speculating about what could be and should be and might be in 2007 while they wait for it, it's a great time for people to be thinking outside the box and to come up with new concepts and ideas for 2008 and beyond. After people get the game, we can expect a chorus of bug reports and enhancement requests and incremental change requests, so what better time than now, before the majority actually get the new game, to think big and to dream of what might be?

Good points, but I still think that the "Suggestions for 2008" forum should be opened.
