OOTP and DMB are kind of geared towards different things - DMB is a season replay, and OOTP is more of a career simulation.
That's not to say you can't replay seasons in OOTP, it's more that OOTP can do so, so, so much more. You won't be able to play with real players out of the box, since the game doesn't ship with real rosters (no MLB/MLBPA license). You can import any historical season you want through the free Lahmann database, and there are third-party 2006 roster sets available, as well which you could use as a starting point for your season replay.

You can download the Lahman database here: www.baseball1.com
Get the CSV version, that is the one that OOTP can use to import any season from 1901 to 2006. ![]() |

The players are assigned to the correct teams but, as mentioned above, I wouldn't call it a "replay" of 2006. OOTP brings a whole new life to past seasons.

OOTP is designed to simulate baseball, not replicate it. Events can happen in OOTP (like injuries, trades, etc) that make the season very different from how it replayed in real life. It's also possible to turn many of those things off, although the defaults the game comes with is for them to be on. For me, the joy of OOTP is in the ability to go beyond a single season and watch players develop and grow in different ways than they did in real life. There's so many what-if? scenarios that OOTP has the ability to produce that it's a very broad game.
