You know Dateline NBC's Chris Hansen did a report last night called "To Catch an Internet Con Artist." He went to London to confront the people. I think I saw Steve and Duffy as part of his investigation. Is that true?

I don't think I've really ever known what it was like to feel like Charlie Brown running up to kick the football....before today. Actually make that yesterday's "Download OOTP 2007...."

that's not fair - those who didn't pre-order get to see the manual at the same time as those who did pre-order! The non pre-order people will need to wait until Friday to see the manual!

Battists, the manual appears to be full of blue hyperlinks to jump between sections but they don't appear to work. I've saved the downloaded copy and tried it several ways. Hyperlinked bookmarks work in other PDFs on my machine so I'm doubting it's the machine's fault.

Grr. Will double-check.

Acrobat really doesn't like Word hyperlinks since version 7 came out.

Well, this appears to be a bug in Acrobat 7. I'll see if I can find a copy of Acrobat 6 to install.

Since I'm at work, I decided to take the plunge and print out the entire manual. I tracked down 532 pages of the finest 3 hole paper, loaded it up, and watched the printer hum for about 5 minutes. A line of colleagues cursed me under their breath as the OOTP manual created a log-jam in the printer room never before seen in my office.

See 21.7.1.

It's in there, I just had it in two places and forgot to take out the one later on.

I found the answer -- the problem, unfortunately, is when you converted the document to .pdf format. From Adobe's website:

"Creating PDF files

The method you choose to create PDF files depends on the features you want to include in your Adobe PDF file. To create PDF files with the quickest and simplest method, use the Adobe PDF printer. If you want to include embedded tags, styles, bookmarks, hyperlinks, or Properties information for the Word document, convert them by using PDFMaker. Because PDFMaker provides these additional features, it may take longer to convert documents, especially large documents that contain several fonts, complex tables, or both. "

So, my friend, is it possible to recreate the manual on your end to accomplish this?

Many thanks!

cbbl

I'd easily pay $10 plus shipping to get this professionally bound.

Drat. I've loaded 6.0 and still nothing ... I think the problem must be with the document. I went back to OOTP2006's customization guide and all the bookmarks work within Acrobat 6.0. I re-upgraded to 8.0 and they still work.

But the current manual ... nope.

Let us know what you discover and whether you can fix things with the document and re-issue. Working links would be a big help!

Thanks,
cbbl

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The problem is on MY end, not yours, sorry for the uninstall.

I got it reconverted, and it works fine now . . . but I have to wait for Duffy to post it to the site tomorrow morning.

So, download it now if you're bored, tomorrow morning if you want a version with hyperlinks and TOC that work!

(BTW, Adobe's "help" isn't all that. I did it the way you described above, with PDFMaker, and the results are what you see here right now. :P )
