Question on historical stats

I just imported the 1985 without bringing in the history just so that I could see the 1985 Royals team. I was looking at Bret Saberhagen and was a little confused.

The guy is 21 years old in 1985 and it claims that he played and had stats for the Royals in 1982, 1983, and 1984. He clearly didn't start in the majors until 1984 (see link below). So, what I'm wondering is when you import players are the stats somewhat messed up like this? Are the stats in 1982, and 1983 from the minors? Is there anyway to fix this?

Isn't Gambo a database that uses players starting from their professional debut years rather than their rookie years?

Yeah, I think so.

That is why I don't understand why he has stats in 1983 and 1982 since he didn't debut until 1984 to my knowledge.

It's based on the professional debut, not the major league debut. Saberhagen started his professional career in 1982 when he was drafted.

The Gambo database does exactly this sort of thing. If you want more accurate results, you should edit the database so that it is the regular Lahman database until 1985 and Gambo after that. I'm not sure how much he changed, so I'm not sure how much editing you would have to do.

Or you could clear pre-sim stats.

I don't think there's any other way around this. You give up accuracy of the past for getting guys' debuts sooner.

The 1.5 database has three directories in it... 2007I and 2007Y and Lahman

for your initial import use the 2007I directory (back it up 1st. As it says in the readme open the batting, pitching, fielding and fielding OF files from that directory in Notepad. Cut the years before the season you are starting (1871-1984) from each of those. Open the same 4 files from the Lahman directory and paste those same years (1871-1984) into the respective 2007I files.

Now when you import those players will have their real life stats up until 1985. From this point on use the 2007Y directory to import rookies each season. Due to limitations those players will show (in their real life stats tab) the stats for the 1st year they where pro and the remainder will be their actual statistics.

It takes about 5 minutes to do and will work for importing history etc.
