I was running 20-80 for the longest time (I wanted the whole experience to be as much like the MLB as I could) but I recently switched to 2-8. If gives me just enough information but at the same time doesn't hand me the answers.

1-10 simply because thats what I used for most of the versions before SI. My second choice would be 1-5 because that would be the closest to the text versions (Poor, Fair, Average, Good, Brilliant) from the very first couple of versions that I played in the series. If I wanted to try something new (for me) it would be 20-80 since that seems to be what real teams use to evaluate.
I've used 1-100 but I didn't like it because it felt too accurate. In my mind in-real life the ratings given by the scouts and others evaluations are just that. Real players don't walk around with their performance connected to a number that will determine the frequency of how hits or homers they hit. When I played with that....over time that is what it felt like. I put too much stock into the ratings numbers and based decisions more on just a few points. I got away from using actual performance as something to base those decisions on. For me, it is important that I don't know too much about the ratings otherwise I will just go by the ratings when making decisions on contract extensions and free agent signing and disregard performance and stats. Its a "better" decision to go with a guy with better ratings...but for me...that feels unrealistic because, as I said, I don't think real GMs base their decisions on "knowing" that a guy has a 94 in HR power and a 78 in contact. Its just easier for me to except that a guy is a 5 or 9 in power and a 4 or 7 in contact. It implies performance but still leaves some doubt on exactly what it will mean.

Using 0-10, with 5 still right in the middle, seems a lot more conceptually people-friendly to me.

I use 1 to 5. It is less precise and prevents me from min/maxing. ie...it is a bit harder to manage.
