Created Fictional Country Not Showing Up

I posted this in Tech Support but probably should have posted here first.

Followed the steps for creating a fictional nation in the Manual but the nation and cities I added in their respective files do not show up when I start the game.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I had that problem with some cities I tried to add, and I think the problem was it had to be done prior to league creation. I don't know if this is your situation, but IIRC the answer was that you can't make those changes after the league is created.

endgame, thanks for the reply.

I did add the nation before I created (or tried to create a league).

I only added 2 cities prior to testing to see if it was in the game. Could this be a problem? Is there a certain amount of cities per nation that needs to be added so the game can create players?

Again, thanks for the reply.

You actually don't need any cities, players from that country will just show up with "unknown" as their birthplace, and the country's population will be 0 in the explore world tab.
I've added many nations with no problem, but I'm not sure what you're missing. Maybe post your nations.txt file, or at least the line of the new nation.

I was just reading about this yesterday in the manual (Section 27.7. Example: Editing Cities.txt). See the second bullet:
Quote:
Important Notes about Cities
• For each city, make sure that you have a nation in nations.txt with a matching nation ID. See Section 27.6 for an example of adding nations.
• Each nation must have at least six cities.
• Do not use commas within any of the fields in the file, such as in the population.
• Do not put spaces between fields of information.

Dogzilla, here is the line for the nation I created (or tried to). I followed the instructions to the tee (I thought):

229,Pacifica,Pacifica,PAC,Pacifican,5,5,0,70,28,30 ,0,0,0,0

I did it thru Notepad. Could that be the problem?

Thanks.

Just guessing here, elmwood, but maybe try using commas to fill out any fields you're not using (with no "zeros"). I think it's somewhere in the manuel that even if fields weren't used, commas had to be used. Your line would look like this:

229,Pacifica,Pacifica,PAC,Pacifican,5,5,0,70,28,30 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Just a guess.

The complete line in OOTP2007 format should have more places, ie:

229,Pacifica,Pacifica,PAC,Pacifican,5,5,0,70,28,30 ,0,0,0,0,0,0,123,30,716,6,125

You could try adding 6 cities, as 1998Yankees suggests. I've never seen it make a difference, but if it's in the manual, it will only take a minute to do.

When you say the country doesn't show up, are you talking about in the league creation screen, where you choose a nation? It may not have a flag (unless you've added one), but it should be there, in alphabetical order.

Thank you albatross11. I had not seen that in the manual about the 6 cities. I will try it and see if it helps.

The manual does say to use just commas. I did that intially and the nation never showed up, so I changed it and added the zeros because I saw the zeros being used in the file for real coutries. Jut thought it might help.

Dogzilla. Thanks again for helping. I will try to add the last values. The reason I did not intially was because the manual stated that they were not needed. The walk-thru the manual gives leaves the fields blank. I'll try it the way you suggested because obviously the way I'm doing it didn't work.

I am not seeing the country in the league creation screen in the drop down menu when you can choose a country. No flag added and no Pacifica in the P's.

It's a small world. I had a real problem adding a new nation (called Pacifica as well). I was using a mac and trying to do the edit using text edit. No matter what I did it didn't work. I tried dozens of times searching to see if there was a problems with hard returns or misplaced commas etc.

Finally I opened the Nations.txt file in word, made the edit and and saved it as a txt file and it worked like a charm.

This was only a problem in 2007. In 2006 I was able to do this much more easily. In fact I simply copied my cities list from 2006 over into 2007 without any problems.

Beacuse of the ethno-graphic info in 2007 I wasn't able to copy my 2006 Nations list into 2007.

All in all an extremely frustrating process.

Thanks StealCompany.

I'll try that when I get home and see if it works for me. Did you have to do it with the cities file as well?

elmwood, here's another clue: Is that a space after the "30" and is it in the text file like that? That's a no-no if so. Did you even read my post?

BTW, you're welcome.

1998, I did read your post. Sorry if I offended you by not replying directly. I do apppreciate your input and help. Hope I did not make you mad.

I checked and the space was not in the text file like that. Thank you for pointing that out though.

I actually added all commas for non-required fields and the country is appearing now. I also added 6 cities like you suggested so that may have been what solved it as well. Either way it's good now and I appreciate everyones willingness to help and all suggestions.

I just thought you hated the Yankees.
