Surprising Contract Demand

A good but not great centerfielder on my team just asked for a 6-year $7.62M contract. He is 31 years old. His greed is 23 and his loyalty is 98.

I'm a little confused because of the personality ratings and the fact that he is not a power or an rbi guy. He is definitely not a star. This is the first 6-year contract I've been asked for.

Should I be surprised?

Is that $7.62 over 6 years? 'cause if it is it sounds like a good deal. If its per year then perhaps he's trying to fleece you. Of course that could be market value for a not-good-not-great CF. Make a counteroffer and see where it gets you.

I've been asked for 6 years before, but only by star players. I wonder if his loyalty rating makes him want to stay with your team for a while?

If he's good, 1.27m a year is not a bad deal, even if he's not great. However, 6.72m a year is maybe not a great deal, especially if he's 31 years old.

I need to know what the financials of the league look like.

If it's like RL MLB then I would say 7.62 isn't bad at all for a good centerfielder. Seems about right in the present market.

6 Years does seem a tad bit long, though.

However, if it's 7.62 over the 6 years then I'd wager he's just looking for security because he knows he isn't that great of a player.

Oops my bad it is $7.62M per year for 6 years. Seems way out of line for his mid level status.

I'll let him walk, shortlist him and see what he gets.

Try offering him like $4-5m for the first couple of years, then ramping it up, keeping some team option at the end. He might go for it. He might be worth it for a couple of years, and if not, the game thinks he's tidy so trade him for some stuff. Better than letting him go for nothing.

I went $5.5M for 4 and he said he couldn't put food on the table.

Its playoff time and I have two prospects ready to go for next year. He can walk.

Nobody walks. Trade him for something useful. Always get something, that's my philosophy. UNLESS you are already past the deadline OR you need him for a strech run, get SOMETHING.

I did not know Mr. Sprewell played baseball too! What is the average going rate for an outfielder of his skills? You have someone to replace him in the system?

Now this DOES sound like the MLB.
