It looks like OOTP 8 has the new english.xml file. I'm showing 20,415 lines of text in NoteTab Pro with word wrap off.

Putting the revised file into OOTP 8 was a very good idea. Thanks!

Conspiracy Detected!

Nonsense news story leads to investigation! Several hard-coded references to Boston and Fenway Park found in english.xml shipped with OOTP 8! Someone is obviously a Red Sox fan, and shameless . . .
Quote:

TEXT_OBJECT id="19424" text="Boston's [%personlink] went [%batting h]-for-[%batting ab] in today's game and hit for the cycle, collecting all four types of hits and 12 RBIs. But it could not overcome the [%team#2link nickname], who won the game [%game score].(nl)(nl)"I didn't really think about it at the time, although after the double, it snuck into my mind," [%personlink l] told reporters. "The crowd certainly let me know in that last at bat, that I was going for the cycle...and I was able to make solid contact and get it. In the end the only thing that matters is that we lost," [%personname l] added."

TEXT_OBJECT id="19428" text="Today at [%ballpark] [%personlink] collected a cycle and led Boston to a [%game score] triumph over the [%team#1link nickname]. The [%team#1nickname] [%playerposition] sparked his club with [%batting h word] in [%batting ab] tries with [%batting r word] scored and [%batting rbi word]."

TEXT_OBJECT id="19429" text="Today at Fenway Park [%personlink] tore up [%team#2nickname] pitching, but the [%team#1nickname] still came up empty. [%team#2link] whipped them [%game score], despite his best efforts. The [%team#1link] [%playerposition] hit for the cycle with a [%batting h]-[%batting ab] day and collected [%batting rbi word] and scored [%batting r word] runs -- but to no avail -- his team lost the game anyway."
I have reverted to the Eugene Church version, which I see does not contain this obvious bias. (He missed two hard-coded references to the Yankees but those I find acceptable. )

Sorry for the oversights. I will have to be more careful in my encoding and proofing.

Thanks for posting the errors with the item numbers.

Boston, Fenway Park and New York are all default translations in the Text Database.

They help in the proofing after we encode with the tokens.

But sometimes we forget to use a token, which causes an error. However, when you looked at the finished news stories after conversion, it looks right, but is wrong.

All of these four errors have been fixed for OOTP9 or the next Text Update.

Several of us are still expanding deficient news stories categories.

Good progress is being made.

I just went through and tweaked the wording to remove the references. Thanks to the numbers being included it took me about 20 seconds.

Eugene, there is no reason for you to apologize, given the work that you have done on this. Besides, as I said above, your version had expunged those references. However, in the spirit of things here, I offer the two hard-coded Yankees references if you care to take note of them; these can be found in your edited file as well, so they have been around for a while I guess:
Quote:
TEXT_OBJECT id="19309" text="It was a special day at [%ballpark] for [%personlink] at the plate, not only did he contribute to the [%team#1nickname] [%game score] win over the Yankees, he hit for the cycle.(nl)(nl)"Boy, [%personname f] had a game, didn't he? It's a rare player that has the talent to hit for the cycle. It takes speed, power and maybe a little luck, too. You don't see this happen very often." the [%team#1link] manager said.(nl)(nl)[%personlink l] went [%batting h]-[%batting ab] on the day, raised his batting average to [%batting avg] and had [%batting rbi word] and [%batting r word] scored -- and he got his name in the record book, too.(nl)(nl)[%string#1]"

TEXT_OBJECT id="19312" text="[%personlink] of the [%team#1link nickname] had an amazing day at the plate today in a game against [%team#2link]. Fans at [%ballpark] were treated to a hitting spectacle as he hit for the cycle.(nl)Yes -- the cycle -- one of baseball's rarest feats and spectator treats.(nl)(nl)The [%team#1link] [%playerposition] hit them all!(nl)The single, double, triple and homerun came during his [%batting ab] at-bats as the [%team#1nickname] downed the Yankees [%game score].(nl)(nl) "I would like to say it was skill, but I would be more inclined to say it was some luck, too. Triples are hard to come by."(nl)(nl)[%personlink l] finished the day with [%batting h] in [%batting ab] tries and raised his batting average a few points to [%batting avg]. He also had [%batting rbi word] and [%batting r word] scored.(nl)(nl)[%string#1]"
I fixed all of these by substituting "[%team#2nickname]" (no quotes) for the hard-coded name.

By the way, on second thought and reverting to my previous theme, it must be a Red Sox fan who did this. Notice that the Yankees are defeated in both of these references, while Boston's was good news. I demand an explanation!
