Vista and e-license
I can't seem to figure out how to unlicense with vista. The option isn't there.

And which periodically stops while you're trying to get somewhere and demands to see your ID.

open help in Vista, then type "user account control", then click the link and turn it off.

well at least it's not a Mac.
Vista, we are a pain sometimes but try running all your stuff on a Mac. Serously though, I like Vista, it is stable I don't think the system has crashed once all year. I can leave the computer running for days at a time without bothering to reboot it. Some software isn't vista compatible yet, or needs a vista patch but that will catch up. The security is a bit over the top with the allow or deny when starting programs or accessing files, but can disable by turning off user account options, and just running as administrator all the time. Windows media center is sweet, plays television on the computer, and can record, like a built in tivo on the computer. Plug in my USB 2 gig memory drive into a usb port and utilize it as RAM is nice also. Free extra 2 gigs of ram. I think Vista is getting a bad reputation that it doesn't deserve mostly due to the annoying allow or deny, and uncompatible drivers, software. Heck I ran Windows ME for 2 years though so I been through the trenches like a grizzled old Vietnam vet, I seen bad stuff man, you don't know.

vista is terrible. Media center also works on XP. I have a PC hooked up to my rear projection big sceen and just watch movies, video & music from media center. I only reboot my XP machines about once a month and never have probelms.
Vista is a good operating system for a business enviroment. not so good for home use. but then to each his own ![]() macs are OK, but they crash just as much as a pc and at least in the past they are a pain to upgrade. my mom uses macs and she buys a new one every couple years. I simply upgrade my parts for my pc every couple years

Lencombs, I agree that Vista is stable. My problem is that the security is, as you say, over the top. In fact, it's all the way to Looney Tunes. An operating system that won't readily do what I want to do is an operating system that I do not want to use. I feel like that guy in the 2001 movie with the computer problem, and I expect to hear the computer saying "Sorry, James, but I can't do that" to me all the time.
I also can't get the shortcut icons to sort on my desktop, they apparently fall into two groups (and, yes, all of them are pure shortcuts made by Create Shortcut) and they will sort within their group by A-A, but I can't figure out why there are two groups or what the criteria for the groups are. Vista: stable but sucky.

My shortcuts sorted just fine by right clicking on the desktop and doing it as I've always done it. Seriously, since turning off UAC and acquiring ownership of all files, Vista hasn't given me a minute's problem. |
