Customized "Era Stats" File - The Mitchell Report Edition
The attached file is one of my pet projects with OOTP. I've circulated it on the beta boards, but I don't think I ever got around to posting it here.
In a nutshell, using this file in place of the default "era_stats.txt" file will result in more subtle statistical changes from year to year, and it will (slightly) curb the rise in HR production that occurs from 1992 to present. For those who are curious, I accomplished this by first normalizing all relevant statistics to 100,000 AB per season then taking 5-year moving averages. With respect to HRs, I set the 2007 HR rate equal to the highest 3-year average that occured prior to 1992 then straight-lined to that value from 1992 levels. Remember to back up your default era_stats.txt file first and enjoy ![]() |

This is a fictional approach and not a historical one, but for those who like fantasy/alternate history and hate steroids this is a good thing.

It seems to me that most people don't realize how well you can control the statistical output of your leagues with the erastats file. The game does a good job of adjusting the modifiers to produce results within a reasonable range of the ones in the file.

Maybe an admin could write up a how-to and put in here in a new thread?

I made a version of the Lahman database in Access where you could click a button and instantly normalize everything (in my own way of doing it) to any given year. It worked by calculating how many standard deviations any given stat was from a particular year's average, and then applying the average and standard deviation of the selected year. Of course, Ruth had the best homerun seasons of anyone.

Just finished deleting all users from 2007 quickstart, may run a league or dynasty using it.
May also go back to 1990 and delete those names form lahman.

I play strictly fictional, but if I did play historical, I would not change anything. First, because I am not in denial, and second because even if I wanted to make myself believe that things should have been different, I do not know to what point I should change stuff. It is the same for Aaron and Mays` greenies.
