Free agent(s)

My ace wants to test free agency next winter. Now I'm looking for a replacement. As I'm in a playoff race I rather want not to trade my ace away. But how does free agency work. There are three, four "potential" aces in the free agency market. If I make bids for three of them, could it be that I end up with all of them?
On the other hand if I only make a bid for one of the, it's rather likely that I end up without a new ace?

I'm from Europe (baseball is virtually unknown here) so forgive my "stupid" question about free agency.

What you can do is make an offer to each of them. The odds that they will sign it immediately are minuscule, they are more likely to let you know what they think of your offer first. The odds that they will all sign on the same day are also rather low, so if an ace signs with you and you have pending offers for the others, you can simply remove your offers to these guys. But, yeah, you always run a small risk.

Ok, thanks a lot

Didn't know I can remove offers for free agents. In European football (soccer) the system is quite different ...

And it would be unusual if you have enough money to offer contracts to three different aces- if you do, why not sign all of them?
