Why would this guy get released?

I cant figure out why the Blue Jays would release this pitcher? He is now a free agent asking for over 6 million a year. 80/80 scale. I understand certain teams wanting to bring up cheaper minor league pitchers but this guy is as good in the bullpen as you can get(in OOTP08 of course).

Other unusual things would include the Yankees offering Latroy Hawkins an extension in April this same year and releasing him on the same date the following screen shot player was released.

How would that 6mil a year have figured into their payroll?

Thanks for the response I didnt think I was going to get one The Blue Jays were over budget for some reason so I understand wanting to cut into the budget however he was never on the trade block and I would think they could find better areas to cut back on rather than an 80/80 relief pitcher that was actually only making 3.2 million.

Tough call, budget problems, knowing he'll be asking for that kind of money, and at 32 starting to see less IP every year while not being on the upswing in those appearances. Questionable, maybe. Guess I'd like to see what they end up with in the bullpen and if they offset that change with any additional offense. Not that he was contributing a great deal to run reductions.

If they were looking to cut payroll they would have been better off trading him for some scrub than releasing him.

But i see OOTP do weird things all the time - it's why I check the waiver wire daily.
