OOTP wins PC Gamer's Sports Game of the Year Award!!!

Looks like I was first to get my copy of the mag again.

Page 50...

"After the transition to a new developer/publisher made for a rough outing in 2006, OOTP regained it's All Star form. The 2007 version of the premiere management simulation dramatically revamps the interface, brings back star ratings for players, and enhances statistical accuracy to near Bill James-ian levels. We dig the way the game's excellent help system makes it penetrable for those new to the genre, while it's incredible depth keeps even the most rabid fantasy-ball fan happy. Now if they only had MLB rosters... ***

Runner up: Baseball Mogul

*** i ad libbed the last sentence

congrats though!!!

Baseball Mogul was runner-up? No credibility in this mag...

Baseball Mogul = baseball simming for dummies.

I think Mogul is a great game for beginners. It's a gateway sim. You start on Mogul and you work your way up to OOTP.

I hope the magazine article didn't actually have those two errant apostrophes. Or maybe I hope it did; I can send them my resume and point out how bad they need an editor.

Either way, great score for the OOTPD team. This award should go a long way in assisting the efforts discussed in the latest "update" thread.

Does their "sports game" category at all include more graphical arcadey games like NHL '08, etc or is this just for simulations? I can buy that they found OOTP to be the best sports game, but BM as the runner up as well sounds very curious and makes me question the winner as well. I'm not saying BM sucks, but surely out of all the sports games that come out each year the top two wouldn't both be baseball simulations. What, do they only have one guy who judges that award and he just happens to be a baseball simulation junkie? Come on, fess up, who of us was the judge?

Maybe, but you'd have to go through a lot of games along the way to work your way up that far from Mogul.

I lost all respect for that magazine (not that I had much to start with) when the Half-Life 2 source code was leaked and instead of covering it objectively and professionally they just went nuts. Last time I ever bought it. They may as well have just run an article which consisted of the sentence "Please love us Gabe" repeated over 100 pages.

I tried Mogul recently. I quit after a weeks simming time. The interface is horrendous, and the game just doesn't feel that immersive.

OOTP wins. Though in a right and just world, Puresim should have been second, and basically highlights why PC Gamer is a festering pile of yak sputum.

I went from Mogul straight to OOTP. Of course, that was OOTP2, so there is a difference.

At least they got the #1 game right...and congrats to all the programmers who deserve all of the awards.

The only use i've ever had for PC Gamer was when they ran a complete walkthrough for Command & Conquer-Red Alert, other than that, it just takes up space on the coffee table/magazine rack.

That is exactly how I began.

I went from Front Page Sports Baseball Pro 96 to Baseball Mogul to Season Ticket Baseball (wasn't that the retail version of OOTP4?).

With STB I was absolutely stunned by the statistical depth and the ability to manage my favorite team forever if I wanted to, or even create a fictional team!

When I discovered STB I thought, "FINALLY! A sports game for grown-ups!"
