Fired after winning the World Series?

I was managing the Milwaukee Brewers and I was fired after winning the World Series, going undefeated in the playoffs. Not to mention took my team to the playoffs for the past 3 years. Whats up with that?

I don't play in manager mode, but I don't see this as a problem. Good coaches get fired all the time. Grady Little got fired after taking his team to the LCS, and Claude Julien of the New Jersey Devils got fired right before the end of the season despite doing a fantastic job. I guess there's more than performance to account for.

How is there more than performance to account for in a text sim? 'suppose you could take player moods into account but i can't think of anything else.

It does seem stupid, but at the same time Joe Torre (while not actually fired) was insulted and basically not wanted back after taking the Yanks to 13 straight post season appearances.Walt Jockety was fired by St. Louis after the team makes the playoffs 7 of 13 seasons and an overal .543 win percentage in that time. Sometimes teams just don't want to win, or they use their cover "We want to go in a different direction".

Winning baseball games is not the direction Milwaukee wants to go in your universe.

I was just coming here to post about the same thing.

My owner wanted me to win it all. I did, easily. I won the Series in 6 games (best 5 of 9), and had the best record in baseball to boot.

And the day after it was over, I was fired. On top of that, it says in my managerial history that I didn't qualify for the playoffs, and I didn't get a season score.

Hell, it's not getting credit for the championship (or even for qualifying for the playoffs) that irks me most of all.

I wonder what overall team morale was. Miss extending a key player? Make a bad trade?

What about team financials? Consistently over budget? Fan interest and attendance not where they are supposed to be?

Major League

Maybe the owner is trying to build a case to move the team to Miami.

Exactly what happened to me. I built the best team in baseball. I probably had 4 of the top 10 SPers in the game (all of them were under the age of 28) Solid young offense. That team would have kept winning for the next decade, and then I got fired.

Unfortunately, none of these answers are actually of any use to the guy who started this thread. They sound more like the sort of "help" people give on the SI forum.

Since OOTP 5 this baseball franchise has steadily moved away from being a baseball management sandbox, where you can manage your favorite team indefinitely, to being a competitive thing where the main goal is to find and exploit weaknesses in the AI.

The main thing I disliked about OOTP 2007 was the explicit statement that so-called "commissioner mode" was not intended to be a way to manage a single team long-term.

Why not?

In previous versions of the game, that was the only mode there was, and there did not appear to be any kind of penalty in playing the game that way.

Purchasers of OOTP baseball games who want to play as their favorite team indefinitely should be able to do so without being penalized in terms of how the game deals with budgets, etc.

Players need to start demanding that this option be preserved.
