Garlon is the master of all things recalc. He suggests running a couple of sims of that season first and making the necessary adjustments, before playing that season for real. I'll copy and paste his PM to me:
When you start a histoical simulation the first season totals are always a bit off because the modifiers don't kick in until the second season. If you want to do a single-season replay with better results import from the Lahman DB the year you want to simulate, then write down the league totals at the end of your simulation for AB, H, 2B, 3B, HR, BB, HBP, and K.
What we now need to do is compare these simulated results on the first run through with the actual historical ratios of that season. For example, in 1987 the league hit .263 and let's say I ran a 1987 simualtion and the league hit .275. .267/.275 = .971. The default modifier for all DIPS categories is 1.000 when you start a league. When you start over and simulate the league a second time type in .971 for the Hits modifier. You have to do the same calculation for the ratios of 2B/AB, 3B/AB, HR/AB, BB/AB, HBP/AB, and K/AB.
