Logos, Transparency, and HTML

How come my PNG logo's show up with gray backgrounds in my html files? when I look at them in GIMP they have "transparent" backgrounds as far as I can tell.

Here's an example...notice the MLB logo in the header and Team logo in the news section:

Why don't you post one of the problem logos for us to take a look at.

Here you go

Here's the MLB logo in PNG format.
Something else I noticed...everything looks fine in the game, but its just Internet Explorer that doesn't like it? IE6 btw.

Hey Koohead,

The reason that your logo's are looking like that is because they do not have a trasparent background, I do not use GIMP, I use Paint Shop Pro 8. BUT, Cephasjames uses GIMP, you may want to send him a PM, I think he is pretty good with it. Good luck and let us know what you find out, so others can learn from this. BTW, nice MLB logo.

Thanks Oxy. That's what I thought at first too but then I pull up the image in Gimp in to edit it and make sure the background is transparent and it already is. To add to the madness, I'm now looking at this post using Opera, and the image looks fine...no gray background. Last night when I posted it using IE it had a gray background. Must be browser specific then? I'll try IE7 and report back to you all.

oh, btw...I can't take credit for that MLB logo. Got all my logos from truthserum I believe when OOTP2006 came out. I can't even pretend to have the graphic skillz that you all do.

Well, it does have a transparent background.

The only thing I can think of is that when saved in The Gimp "Save Background" box was checked.

Anyway, see if this is better...

Nothing's wrong with the PNG file, It's actually well-known IE6 problem with rendering PNG transparency. When I set up my wife's web site, I had to incorporate some extra javascript stuff in the page to work around the issue.

That's just the first of many, many hits when you Google "ie6 transparent png".

You can fix it by switching to another browser (Firefox, Opera) or upgrading to IE7.

Thanks everyone. I kind of figured it was IE6 when Opera displayed the images correctly this morning but didn't know if it was just luck or what.
Anyway, glad to know a simple upgrade to IE7 will resolve it.

btw, anyone else notice a real big degradation of the png image quality when viewed in the browser vs in game? doesn't seem to be as smooth...much more jagged and "fuzzy" if you will.
