Default MLB Roster
Has anyone been using the MLB 07 roster that is default with the game? How many seasons have progressed and what are the results?
I am moving into 2008 (2nd season) and teams are unloading players left and right, I mean big names like Andruw Jones and David Wright Andruw Jones just signed a deal with, ironically, Los Angeles Dodgers for $420,000?!?!?

Yeah, I never got past 1/02/07, because it's a mess. Lots of players on DFA with 40 man full, lots of teams in the red, sometimes to the tune of $40mil, which is the most likely reason for the dumping of players. I hope next year's version is better put together.

So should I scrap what I've done up to this point? I did go through and "adjust" teams cash and that has helped with them signing free agents, but that seems unfair.
If I ditch the default which rosters should I go with? I would like to start back in '07. Thanks!

I think I am going to try and give the defaults a go. The gameplay and the results are spot on.
Boston won the '07 World Series, Ryan Howard won the NL MVP (63 HRs), ManRam won the AL MVP. There were only 7 or 8 guys who hit more than 45 (Fielder, ManRam, Howard, etc), the team with the best record was Philly 105-57, no team lost 100+ games. Hamels won 22. Overall the results really made me happy. Then the off season began and Piazza, AJones, JKent and a TON of other free agents were unemployed until Feb when I took over Commish and nudged a few teams into signing them. Ironically the trade AI seems to kick butt, there are a lot of trades, but very fair for both sides. The only thing I did was go into the team financials and fudge some numbers to keep the big guys big and the small guys still building. I was the manager of the NYPenn Aberdeen IronBirds until I was fired after a 16-29 start, I was hired in the offseason to coach the Winston Salem Warthogs of the Carolina League so the transactions don't affect me and what I do. If you take out the releases and signings I give the default rosters a 9.5, even with the problems the default is still a solid 7 or 7.5, so I will see what happens in '08. Just in case I am going to import my OOTP6.5 Pirates dynasty ![]()

(which always makes me wonder if the player financial AI could use some tweaking so that players 'know' and respond to the actual financial climate of the league -- no IRL baseball player would ever just go a year without playing. I remember in versions 4 and 5 when I got financials screwed up in fictional leagues, if a guy wasn't able to get a contract to his liking in the FA period because no teams had the cash, he'd always sign a 1-year $4m or $5m deal if you offered it to him, which made sense to me. Evidently OOTP7/v8 doesn't do this. Anyway, this whole digression is a conversation for another thread) |
