These are the things I love about this game...

I have a guy that I drafted in the 14th round and he was a half way decent starter in his 1st season. He didn't pitch too bad and bounced up and down between AAA and the Majors for a couple of years.

I had an injury 7 seasons ago, in 2009 and he came up permanently. He pitched very well in those seasons winning 8-13-22-21-15 and 18 games in those seasons.

However, along come 2015 and he is a disaster. He is 2-10 with a 5.10 era so far and has now been removed from the rotation becuase of a solid prospect who just came up. He now, in the pen, is pitching like his old self and is one of my most reliable relievers. I changed him to MR and he is good with that.

I have never had a guy go from good starter to the bullpen before and be ok with it. They might pitch well, but they are mad about it.

A good team guy and someone I will have for a while.

Thanks for reading

Sounds like the Derek Lowe career path: crap starter, good starter, good reliever, crap reliever, good starter. So if this guy starts blowing a ton of leads out of the pen, just stick him back in the rotation, sit back & enjoy.

You know, I'm just now realizing that I could help out my struggling team by converting some of my starter prospects to relievers. Im an idiot for not realizing it more now. Then again, my team isnt truly struggling as they are dominating, but the bullpen has been a frustrating weak link and has resulted in my starters not getting a ton of wins.

I have this one guy in a league I have been running (though not too often these days) who is rated a 5 out of 10 in contact but has led the league in batting two straight years, topping .360 both times - the only two years of the league's existence so far. I'm following him to see if he can keep up this much-higher-than-expected level of performance. It really does seem that some players consistently outperform their ratings. And I like getting those surprises.

Yes, just like some players consistently underperform their [actual] ratings, even with scouts off. Not enough to make you give up on ratings altogether, but enough to make things interesting. It helps keep the game from being too predictable.

I've noticed a few guys running test leagues trying to figure out the relationship of ratings to stats output.
While it's nice to get a general idea I'm happy it's not an easy conversion, 80/100 contact = .350 avg for ex., that makes the long term play of the game much better.
