Prevent any AI roster changes
If this is in the manual, I couldn't relocate it. This is the option on the Team Options/Ballpark page and I need a little help remembering the rationale for it being included.
I've been bitten once again by the ctog bug and have decided to dump my league and start another one. I want the settings to do what I intend and to, hopefully, revisit and understand most of them. I suppose this will work in combination with the Manager Options, but I want to be sure how it's working for those of you using or not using it. If I want to delegate minor league promotions/demotions (except to the Active Roster) would I leave this box unchecked? Or will that affect the AI's ability to put someone on my active roster without my okay? If this is team-relative, then IIRC, I can check it for my major league team and get the results I'm looking to achieve. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

I am using this in my Wisconsin Baseball Association dynasty. It works well for me. I let the AI control all teams but I select the option for the AI to not make any roster changes. The AI will still control the lineups and rotations fairly well. In the WBA I let the AI have control in the month of May to make trades and then change it back on June 1st so that I control the rosters.
I found this option under League Setup and it is league wide option, but I think the option you found is for the current team. I have only used it for the entire league and it works well. |

Here's one quick observation: The control that Sandman mentions toggles that box for every team in the league, and the one underneath it clears it for all. So, individual team toggling would be doing the same thing selectively. Don't know if that helps; will be back if I observe anything else.

Dola,
Observations: 1. With Minor League Transactions under my name, I notice that box appears in every one of my minor league team Options & Ballpark pages (note - to see it, you have to be the commissioner, which I am). However, if I put my minor league managers in charge of Minor League Transactions, it's not there. This seems counter-intuitive in that the game is giving me the option of preventing AI roster changes when I am in charge of all roster changes anyway. When I am not, I don't have the option because I have yielded this function to the AI. 2. I can see this box only on the major league team level for all other organizations not controlled by me. If I resign from my team, on the other hand, I can still see the box for my former parent club but not for my former minor league teams. I'm not sure what 1. and 2. mean, but I'm willing to guess. The option is there for selective or universal prevention of AI changes to rosters during a historical simulation. Or, when you are in charge of an organization and wish to freeze others on at least the major league level, you can do so for those. As far as your own organization goes, it's superfluous. I notice when I set the controls this way (below), the box still appears for the parent club. But why would you yield roster moves and transactions and then look to prevent AI changes to your roster? And, as I said above, I have the option of freezing my minor league rosters appears only when I am in charge of them. Why would I want to do so? (Possibly when you are normally in charge but delegate to AI when you are on vacation, and you wish it to handle only rookie league roster changes, you would freeze the other teams before going?) IIRC, this option appeared back in 2006 to prevent AI from changing minor league rosters, before the team control was instituted. I think it's a holdover from that and was adapted for the league-wide use that Sandman discussed in his post. Let's see what he and others may have to say.
