No Trade Clause
I signed an OF'er after the expansion draft for my Pittsburgh Rebels franchise to a rather long contract for 14 mil per season and thinking he might reject an offer due to being an expansion club I added a no trade clause. Well, I picked up another OF'er in a trade and he has turned out to be much, much better than expected. I would like to trade the previous OF'er but due to the no trade clause I cannot. I know that in MLB the no trade clause allows the player to reject a trade but there are times they allow one to go through. Is it that way in OOTP or does it just not allow you to trade a player at all for the life of the contract?

I don't think the player "waives his no trade clause" in OOTP, you're just stuck with him.

This is something I'd love to see added to the game. Players who are really unhappy should be able to waive their no trade clauses. In fact, I seem to remember someone complaining about a player with a no trade clause asking to be traded, although that issue was probably fixed.

This was my first no trade clause. I just wish I hadn't thrown all that money around to make a huge splash our first season. |

I know this thread is a little old now, but in my online league (2007 version), I just had this happen.
At last years trade deadline, I tried to trade Mark Buerhle - who had a NTC - and he vetoed the deal. A month into the new season, he has demanded to be traded... Whats the deal? Is he now willing to waive his NTC? Or am I stuck with a miserable player who doesn't want to be on my team anymore but refuses to leave? |

Personally, I think if a player with an NTC demands to be traded, I see no reason why you can't edit his contract, as long as you trade him realistically. The trade demand is an implicit waiver.

You can always edit his contract to expire after the current season.
