Offseason questions
So in an online league (Off Topic Baseball Association - Home) I have a favorite pitcher who is about to get the Emmitt Smith treatment. He makes 13 mil and has 1 year left, he's no longer valuable as a player. So my question is when does the cash max take effect, can I wait to see if he retires first? or Do i need to make the cut earlier than that? Its not "that" huge of a deal cause my team has the money, but I need the cap room, and I'd like to make the more efficient decision possible. If I could wait for Blain to retire, that'd be the best (assuming he does).
Thanks!

you're talking about cash max and not salary cap right? cuz that's really 2 different things. Cash Max I believe is before the "off season begins" date. Your cash is calculated at the end of the season...whatever you had in the bank on the last day of the season.
Salary cap however, as far as I can gather, doesn't come into play until Start of Preseason. I think. I may be able to sim through a season this weekend so I'll let you know if you don't get the answer prior to that.

yeah I guess the major question ended up being owner budgets. but my team lost the world series so in not so many words, I just purged my roster of him and other salary albatrosses. No more loyalties here

13 million is a lot to swallow for a player no one wants, should have tried anyway possible to dump him a year ago.. personally I get rid of anyone 35 years old or close to it, sometimes they may have 4 or 5 productive years left in them, but I would rather go young and cheap.

there wasn't any offers to entertain, the season before he was still dominate, and this season he felt apart at the seams. So tough luck. However my team made 35 mil this season and is still at the cash max limit from last season. So eating the 13 mil wasn't costly. I still hope to sign him back in FA at a sixth starter/long reliever rate. If he retires, great! If not instead of 13 of my 97 mil cap he costs 500k. I have money to play with!
