Question Field rating question for real player.

As I was going through my 1969 season yesterday, I noticed Ron Hunt, who was primarily a 2nd baseman in his career, had no rating at 2nd! I then checked his numbers and they weren't any worse than most of the other second basemen yet he didn't have a rating.

His range/arm/error/dp ratings were all in the 30's (on a 1-100 scale) which I find odd considering is attempts/9 innings is in the mid 5's, I think 5.4 or so, which is not bad. So......why is the only rating he has for 3rd base (granted it was a lousy rating as it should be for 3rd), a position he rarely played in his career? Can someone try importing him and see what they get for ratings or can someone tell me why he would be imported that way. He appears to be the only player who had that problem.

Well, I checked on baseball-reference. And he did play 158 games at 3B. So that isnt so rare. (Though only a handful in the late 60s). I gotta say the 2B thing mystifies me. But looking at his career stats for 3B, his range there should be average-ish (that run factor per 9 innings was 2.80 with a 2.96 league average.) Though, yeah his fielding there career wise was .929, not good. But, the range, well, one minor annoyance for me with OOTP is they sometimes downgrade range a little to me.

Yeah. It looks like all his defensive ratings, being so low, are based solely on his 3B stats. I checked the experience section and it gives him a 200 for 2nd base and a 120 or so for 3rd, yet no rating for 2nd. Weird.

On another note: I was thinking about Ron HUnt today. And started thinking. Considering in real life how much he got hit by pitches. Given the advance of equipment for hitters. I kind of wondered how many times he could find a way to get hit by pitches nowadays.

He could probably find all kinds of ways, but then they toss pitchers for "throwing at batters" so often these days Hunt probably would have to go way out of the strike zone to get hit.

Pitchers who loved intimidating batters, i.e., Bob Gibson, probably wouldn't be as effective these days with how quick pitchers get tossed.

What is the data source for your 1969 OOTP season? Lahman's?

true. *avoids rant on how baseball seems to have a hate for pitchers, nowadays*
