A Special Thanks To Nutlaw
Just wanted to give shout to commend Nutlaw on being the lone trooper over in the tech support forum.
He's done an incredible job trying to help some of us through our own idiocy (and also done his best to shine a few OOTP turds, too). He's been infinitely patient in a position where he has to address folks at the height of frustration. Kudos to ya, man. Thanks for helping us all out. |

Ditto!
I see that guy's name always at the end of so many new posts and think, "now that guy's got stamina!". That just might be the crappiest game job there is and yet day in and day out he's there replying to pleas for help. He doesn't do just one at a time either, he does several each day. I don't know how he does it, but that guy has my utmost respect.

Adding my post here in appreciation of that.

Nutlaw deserves a round of applause. He's done a great job. If I had to assemble an All-Star team of OOTP beta testers, I'd have guys like tysok at SS, Eugene Church at 1B, etc. And without a doubt, Nutlaw would be my Closer!

I feared that was the case, but I didn't know for sure. Well, here's to hoping they come to their senses and throw him something like they finally did with battists. Maybe it's not as glamorous, but it's just as, if not more, valuable.
The time and effort some people put into this game for, in some cases like this, just the enjoyment of others blows me away some times. It's understandable when you yourself are getting a fair amount of enjoyment out of it, but I really can't imagine anyone enjoys tech support at the amount he does it. Maybe he's just crazy like that though. Either way, nutlaw, if you're ever out in Vancouver and need a tour guide or just a beer, give me a shout.

Aww shucks. Thanks, guys!
![]() I had spent a lot of time during the OOTP 2007 beta reviewing and testing reported bugs and their fixes, and that had taught me enough about most of the ins and outs of the game to be able to tinker my way through most problems. I guess that it always seemed a shame not to step in and try to lend a hand when someone was having trouble.

I suppose one by-product (benefit?) of always being there trying to help is that you do tend to pick up some base knowledge yourself along the way about the way the game works and I'd like to think that'd make the game more fulfilling from both aspects: being able to help people more often and adding to your own knowledge base. I know when 1998 Yankees started helping people in the New to the Game forum, he wasn't so far from new himself, but now he's one of the more informative seasoned veterans as go everyday questions that new people have. In that respect, I hope you've also served as an example for people to pitch in when they can and how they can. That's how communities grow and how people like yourself end up finding their niche. Thanks again for all you do and have done.

And in all fairness, I've hardly been doing it alone. Of late, redsoxford in particular has really been going above and beyond in tackling some of the trickier issues.

Nutlaw is much much more consistent. I'm not the greatest at checking every day or so like he is, and I do tend to 'cherry-pick' problems (I have no real knowledge of Mac or Online leagues), and most of the time I end up tinkering with the very fabric of the game because there's a fair few bugs that nobody can reproduce with any regularity that can only be fixed by diving into the database structure.
But hopefully Markus and co will have fixed some of these by the time of OOTP9... |

even as a relative noob, I've found many solutions just by searching and seeing the answer thanks to Nutlaw or other helpy helpers. I wouldnt been as obsessed with this game if it weren't for you guys on the board getting me through the rough patches.
Thanks!
