Do I get a deal on OOTP9 if I buy 8 now?

I've been a OOTPer since version 3, but never bought version 8. If I buy v8 for $20 now, will I have to shell out another $30-$40 when v9 comes out next month? I'd rather just pay $40 for v9 now, and get v8 while I wait.

I'd rather have a box full of $20s.

Did you buy 2007?

You could buy 8 now at the discounted price and then buy 9 at the preorder price of what is it, 25? That's close enough to your 40 plus you get a month and a half or so of gaming enjoyment.

EDIT: Yup. As per Markus's thread it's 25 for the preorder, 40 otherwise. So you'd be spending 5 bucks more, but you'd be getting that time to play the game. Or maybe you really want to wait until the demo when the preorder period will probably have expired. It's up to you.

If you want to be nudged into getting it, I'd say get it and join a few online leagues. You're almost guaranteed to get more than your money's worth. Maybe you're more of a solo guy. If so, try writing some dynasty reports. And if you ever think you're starting to get bored with it, go over to the mods section to give the game a whole new look. Really, there's so much you can do with this game the only thing you should be concerned with is spending too much time with it!

Well said - especially the Mods section. By the time you set up your league structure, download & assign the ballpark photos, download & assign logos, redesign all your team jerseys, and pick out a schedule, you will be just about in time for the new release.

Talking about Ballpark photos, this is crazy.

I tried to set up a ballpark with all the necessary settings/measurements. That's just NUTS and I gave up.

Please make this user FRIENDLY for version OOTP9.

We shouldn't have to go through HELL to have the proper MLB settings.

Just my 2 cents.

Sorry, your comments were too non-specific to offer much assistance - but try this...

1. The ballpark measurements for most ballparks are available here on the forum.
2. The placement of the players can just be dragged to the exact place where you want them.
3. There is a table in OOTP (Ballpark Factors) for each ballpark to set the chance of hits, doubles, triples, HRs, etc. These can usually be set in less than 60 seconds!

It is believed that the ballpark measurements are largely cosmetic at this time. The placement of players (with or without pictures) is a matter of personal taste and has no effect on the results of the game. The Ballpark Factors are by far the most important in affecting the outcome of each at-bat.

It would be interesting to see if someone could develop actual realistic ballpark factors for all the ballparks in the major leagues.
