I also agree with this, and the other comments saying the more generic the better. "Global" or "Worldwide" are not always applicable. Maybe "Online" is the same, but this is a computer game.

Along these lines I like if an acronym is word-like. For instance SISA you can easily say as a word (SIGH-suh) as opposed to saying it spelling it out (S-I-S-A), but it is not an actual dictionary word. Same with SION Three letters is short enough to not really be much difference, but if it went four I would like something in that vein. Cannot think of anything myself though.

SIS-uh

That's how I pronounced it.

How about making it editable where the user can go to a certain input area of the league setup where he could enter his own title to replace whatever the game comes with by default?

I voted for OBN. However, I'd have voted for OOTP Sports had that been available.

Why? Who cares if there is a Business News Network? BNN is by far the best option IMO. It's generic and to the point and doesn't have an "O" to represent another acronym.

There are probably legal concerns. For example, if they used CNN they'd probably get sued sooner or later. They use names like Baseball America probably only because they've gotten permission. Baseball America probably likes the advertising, but CNN would probably tell OOTP to take a hike.

(Yes, that's a lot of probablies.)

Interactive Online League Directory - find or advertise a league today! (now OOTP9 compatible, thanks for the space jazzrack!)
Canadian Baseball League - a recent OOTP9 convert, but running steadily since April 2002
SGCBL - a Lord of the Rings themed league with a very friendly membership and a commish constantly looking to improve the smallest of things

None of them are really good.

Having just an "O" to represent "OOTP" doesn't seem good to me.

OBN is the best of the lot by far.

Ya, but it takes quite a bit to trademark/copyright an acronym... I highly doubt the The Business News Network would be concerned (let alone have any legal justifications) with the use of a clearly differentiated acronym in a baseball sim.

FWIW if you google SION there are several companies which use some form of the name.

Americans probably won't care since it's not likely they've heard of the network. Canadians are more likely to have heard of it and make that connection (I know I can't but help make that connection now).

Side note: BNN used to be called ROBTV (Report on Business Television, named after the business section in The Globe & Mail newspaper). The network rebranded itself as BNN a little over a year ago.

I'd say keep any reference to game or company OUT of the title.

IBN: International Baseball Network/News

Or something like that. Branding it with the company/game name is ego stroking, or at least shows a complete lack of imagination.

Did have another one in mind, but I just checked and it's actually a legitimate website.

I voted for OBN - OOTP Baseball Network/News but I was wondering something. Why not have someone buy the advertising rights to make the name. It would give more money to the makers and maybe even make the game cheaper. Just a thought.
