This is the team page for my AAA team: Las Vegas Fates (AAA) Home Page

The 'News' box contains a headline "Hot Bat of Mckissick Burns Machines". Mckissick retired at the end of last year.

The third headline under "breaking news" is from April 28, 2028. The in-game date is now 6-18-2029.

Also, I think it would be nice if headlines on your team's page would be a little more...homerish. My team is currently mediocre, and it doesn't help to see things like "Player X Hits 500th HR", "Smokey Joe lights up LAS for Five Hits", etc. on the page for your team. It may be true, but it's darned depressing. Take Hollywood's page:

Hollywood Media Whores Home Page

Saturday, June 9th, 2029: Portland Whitewashes Media Whores
Friday, June 8th, 2029: Arden Maple Injured, Out of Lineup
Saturday, May 26th, 2029: Zullo Goes 5-5 Against Hollywood

Two butt-kickings and an injury (and injuries seem to be selective - I had my starting C go out for 7 weeks and there was nary a mention in the news). No wonder Shaw is always angry...
The breaking news keeps the last 3 news items and the News keeps the previous 4-6. If you have a team that doesn't get many news Items they can be seen there for quite a while.

You can change what news you get, in your profile, but all 3 of those news stories are about the Hollywood team, you could always make some news stories to help make the team feel better.

Thanks...point one might be something the commish would need to look at. Other than that, I'm not sure how I can tell my guys "go do more things that are noteworthy".

For the second point, I'd say if the player pic or logo shown by the story isn't from our team, the blurb isn't really about our team (excepting trades).

But, as has been pointed out this is straying from topic, so I'll pipe down now.

I don't think Markus expected so many people to respond negatively, but I, too, think it's an odd change. I mean, when I look at top prospects, I don't want to know who was the best at the start of the year, I want to know who is the best now. I mean, I can see why some would rather have information like that restricted, but I don't really like it. It's as if actual ratings were to be hidden in all cases - sure, it make it more realistic, but it's a lot less fun for some people.

I have to say, I haven't seen much interesting to me so far. Then again, I don't play historical and I don't play with scouts. I play fictional, with ratings off, and online. I've failed to be impressed by the list of new features Markus listed, and these screenshots, apart for the new skin (which looks really cool, I must say - but it's just a skin, after all), I don't see much that interests me. I am cheap, so I'd probably only consider buying the pre-order version, but I probably won't do that with the lack of interest in the new features - so, it looks like I probably won't get it at all. Of course, I've been around since OOTP3 and was always satisfied with the new version, so I hope Markus and the gang can come up with something like that again this year. I give them the benefit of the doubt .

What a pleasant surprise. The screenshots look terrific. I will definitely be pre-ordering OOTP 9.

I have no comment whatsoever on the new features (scouting/100 prospects), but I do like the look of the new skin. The quick buttons are in the same position and the batter & team screen tabs are similar in location and style. I did notice the real life stats tab-does this import from lahman?
I may wait to get it and get some more life out of my two OOTP8 leagues, but I'm excited nonetheless.

I like the new skin and the idea of a scouting budget and like the way the budget is allocated by sliders.

I do have one question: In the scouting report, if it says a player is 'streaky' is that just eye candy or is it based on something in the game engine?

The Baseball America top 100 list is great as a reference, it is nice to be able to look back a decade or so to see where players stacked up. It is a nice feature for the baseball fan, but... It isn't as much as nice a feature for the baseball GM.

As a Director of baseball operations, you should be able to have a scouting team provide you with a list of the top 50 -100 baseball prospects, updated bi-monthly or monthly. It would be nice to have both.

Thanks for the pics Markus. I hope the new skin is in addition to the other ones (I like the green one).

I like having the scouting reports back.

I hope the picture editor & player editor will be available "in-game" so that nicknames & picture changes can be made on the fly instead of having to write down the names & make changes between games.

Thanks also for not rushing out the new release. Take your time & do it right.

And, if you don't play with scouts, it's probably because you want to see the exact rankings, the exact data... in which case you'll probably want the top prospects at any given time. It's as if the OOTP8 system is "Screw the scouts - here are the best" whereas the new system is "Screw who's really the best - you can only know who was best several months ago".

Why not? Why not have an annual list (that goes into each year's Almanac) and a current list that can be used by GMs?

any changes with logos or stadiums? Right now adding pictures for stadiums is a nightmare. Takes a lot of typing lol

Is there still a scouting staff?, or do you only have a director? Can we still scout individual players/teams/organizations etc? How often would a GM be getting scouting updates, and will scouts still need time to complete tasks? I hope this system isn't so simplistic that you as the GM simply allocates the budget numbers, and then scouting is automatically done(in other words the whole universe is scouted automatically without scouts having to actually take x number of days to complete a task), and the only X factor in how accurate scouting is, would be based on your budget and the scouts ratings.

Very good idea. I can appreciate the ability to see the top rookies of the past in the league history; it could be a cool little feature. But why should it come at the expense of another cool little feature which we already have? (That is, the ability to see up-to-date rankings.)

well, for what its worth, id say the #1 thing that was wrong with it in OOTP8 was that the majority of the top prospect list was dudes who've been in the majors far to long to still be considered prospects. Any fix on that is a bonus, whether its a yearly prospect report or on the fly.
