Just a quick question from an Australian player of OOTP. Will the pre-order price be $24.99 USD or will it be in Euros like OOTP8 was (if i remember correctly)?

Many of you aren't understanding the issue. The reason that many online leagues do not use scouts in their current form is that the save game files become way too big to download. So we can't really use them. It may be realistic to publish the list every year, but it is extremely unrealistic for those who do not have scouts to be stuck with that list, and only that list, to do a relative overall comparison of different prospects on different teams. As somebody else put it, I can't just "send out a scout" to look at a prospect if we aren't using scouts at all. So the list serves as a crude scouting system of its own in online leagues.

This either must be an option or make the save game files small enough so that online leagues can use scouts. Otherwise we're back into the one step forward, two steps back OOTP development mode. Since the star system is worthless on its own, that system plus the top 100 are the only scouting that can be done in the non-scout world.

The game size file isn't so much an issue in online leagues for me as is the fact that I strongly dislike the scouting system as it is currently implemented. Tough to micro-manage scouts when you're simming a week or two weeks at a time.

And I actually like the star system as a quick way to get a rough handle on a player. It isn't perfect, but it's useful.

That's what scouts and reading game/stat reports are for. If you want to know how the 25th ranked player is doing, send a scout to check him out.

Keep it real Markus.
Keep it real. Scouting services, like Baseball America, are independent entities delivering information to fans of the game. It is interesting to see where out favorite prospects measure up with others in the game. It is nice to have a Top 100 list at the beginning of the year, it is a nice benchmark to look back at and compare the development of the various prospects...

A General Manager will also want to keep tabs on team's prospects, so it is realistic to have a scouting team keep you updated on other team's prize prospects. These results aren't published in a national magazine, they are in house and they serve the GM in his pursuit of trades. This also serves to "Keep it Real".

Offer a bi-weekly, monthly, or bi-monthly update on your organizational prospect ranking as well as the pre-season Baseball America Top 100.

The thing is, some people, like me, prefer to remove the limitations of the "real world". As I've said before, it's as if actual ratings were suddenly to disappear because in real life they are not really visible. It's not a bad idea to play without ratings - but it might be a bad idea to restrict the choices that would make the game more enjoyable for some. I find scouts thoroughly non-enjoyable, and I'd much rather see the actual list of best prospects whenever I want to check it out, removing the limitations of "real life". It's not because real life reports are approximate that OOTP needs to "throttle" and be inefficient to match real life. I can understand why some would want to mimic real life better, and I have no problem with it - what I have a problem with is to be forced to see incomplete data when the game is fully capable of offering me complete data. It's a matter of taste, and without some option, there will be unhappy people.

OK, I'll add the dynamic report alongside the preseason ranking report...

By the way, the two old skins will be included in the game, and they will be adjusted so that they support the new design of the upper area

Thank you, Markus. Its yet another reason why I will always support this game. Someone is listening to the fanbase. You are the best.

Markus, could you elaborate a little more on how scouting works?

Wow Markus, I'm glad you posted about that 100 list, people posted their dislike and you made a nice adjustment.

Any more of the old stuff that won't work the same way?

Like I have said before in another thread, never take away features in a new release, it's like going backwards and we pay for more, not for less.

Very excited about this. I think the pre-order price is great, and I look forward to getting this year's version. I do hope that we get more info prior to the pre-order deadline. I really hope that these two little gems have been fixed/added.

I'm not an IP attorney (although I am an attorney), but should you be including (1) MLB team names/logos/uniforms and (2) MLBPA names in your screenshots? Why leave yourself open to scrutiny from either organization? Unless that's what you're hoping for with an eye towards turning a cease and desist order into a David-and-Goliath media story to milk some free publicity... Not that I'm condoning that...
