Explain how this play happened
Can someone please explain to me, or even show a real life equivalent, how the following play could have possibly occurred? There were no bobbles mentioned and no errors on the play.
![]() That incident happened the pitch after I had gone into the line-up screen, so I don't know if they're connected. Also can someone tell me if the bench coach can call an intentional walk when I haven't, as twice after a first pitch ball so far this season the next one has said they're intentionally walking the batter. This game also saw many other things that I could ask about that I've found odd like the lack of foul outs, the number of supposed double plays ending up "... safe", and runners advancing on sac flies, but there's not much point as this iteration of the game is in the books. I guess I should have done this managing stuff sooner. ![]() One last thing I'd like to share is that I do smile everytime the ball hit down the third base line that is always just out of the shortstop's reach. Why wouldn't it be the third baseman's? ![]() Last edited by Sdpm100 : 04-12-2008 at 10:36 AM. |

Apparently the runner was going on the 3-2 pitch, so he was already halfway to third when the ball came down. Two fielders collided and the ball dropped between them. Neither was hurt, but they were down for a while. And by the time someone came in to grab the ball, the runner had scored and the batter was on second.
I presume that if any of that had happened, the game would have said so, but that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it. |

Looks like a bloop double scored the runner from first.
How many outs were there? DiMaggio5CF - It doesn't look like a full count on the batter, from the log it was 1-1 when he hit the double.

Cheltenham bought the discarded HHH Metrodome in order to prevent 60 rainouts in 81 games. The centre fielder lost the ball in the roof and the 2B just missed an over the shoulder catch.
Simple really. ![]()

The coding of the PBP is a very complex thing. I am sure there are little mistakes like this one and others, but in general, it is very good. The weird things like that are always going to happen, no matter how hard the code is checked.
Since it is a rare occasion when this type of thing happens, you just have to adlib, create an odd situation; hit a bird, fielder fell down, ball caught in webbing or in vines or hit the bag, Morganna ran out on the field... This is your time to be creative. I would post a funny creative message, but it is too early to think.

Yeah, I spent the first 11+ years of my life in Glasgow. I don't miss the rain at all.

Well, with my Junior Varsity team my sophmore year. We had 2 popups drop untouched between 3 IFs and a pitcher (I was the pitcher once.
) 2 or more called for the ball, and basically EVERYONE backed off. Course, this was also the same team I played for, who the regular RF made ONE putout for the entire season. When he caught he started jumping around like he just saved Game 7 of the WS. (He could hit, though).

The 1st baseman is holding the runner on first. The runner breaks for second and the batter hits a low pop up over the 2nd baseman's head towards the 1st base line. The runner missed the ball off of the bat but it all works out because the ball slices away from the 2nd baseman, lands in fair territory but rolls over towards the rolled up tarp.
At this point the 3rd base coach is waving madly. The runner rounds third as the 2nd baseman and right fielder converge on the ball which has rolled up against the tarp. It takes a couple of grabs to get the ball out but it is too late. The batter has sprinted to 2nd for a double and the runner is crossing the plate. |
