Tech Question

I have recently purchased the new version ootp 8.

Everything downloaded, I started it up, paid for the game online and then *poof*

ootp8.exe.fatal application exit
unable to open data folder! please reinstall ootp8

I have tried about everything I know to solve the problem.
1. Reinstalled the game from the downloaded exe file
2. Uninstalled the game and redownloaded everything
3. Manually gone in and deleted all ootp files (except my lincense file)

My PC is networked, but I saved the program to my local C drive (as I saw the same error in a 3/22/07 post from administrator battists

Anyone else ran into the same problem?

DOES ANYONE HAVE A SOLUTION???

Maybe its a permissions thing? Try changing the permissions of the folder to read-write-execute.

Also post in the Tech Support Forum, someone there should be able to help you out.

If you're using Vista and haven't changed the default location for the data, try right clicking the program icon and choose "run as administrator" and see if this solves the problem. If so, you can make this the default.

I actually just started to get this message today - I had to move my .lg folders out of my documents folder b/c I have OOTP on my work laptop and my IT guy was telling me to move my OOTP folders out of my documents b/c they backup our my documents folders all the time. A tad embarassing, but they are pretty lax about that stuff.

So I moved all my .lg folders to program files, hoping I'd be able to search for it within the game, but no dice. I got this error - any help?

Did you go to "Game Preferences" and change the option "Custom User Data Path (*)" to point to the new location? This option is available when you first start OOTP up (before you choose continue game) and it's also on the "Game" menu.
