Understanding Professional Service Time
I want to make sure I understand how professional service time works. Our league is set to the the defaults of 172 minimum days of service for one service year and 6 years minimum for minor league free agency. The manual states that minor leaguers not on the secondary roster at the end of the season will become free agents when Professional Service Time – Time on Secondary Roster >= 6 years.
So far, so good; now for the question. Take a look at the Roster Status Information for minor leaguer Wilford Hall: ![]() Our major league season has just concluded; the day is October 27. The AAA season ended on September 24, so technically Hall had not reached 172 days professional service time at that point. But is the minor league free agency equation calculated from the end of the minor league season or the parent league season? If it's the minor league season, it seems like players are being punished for having their season conclude before the parent league's. Also, when will the professional service time column stop displaying "5 years, 179 days" and start displaying "6 years"? Would you technically call this player a professional of 6 years at this point since he's passed the 172 day minimum requirement for a service year?

Bump.
If anyone can help clarify this for me, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
