Worth Buying?

I was considering buying OOTP8, but I read this forum and heard OOTP9 was coming out this Spring. Should I just wait?

If you can go a month or two without having OOTP to play, you're better off waiting for the additional features. If you can't try the OOTP8 demo and see if you want to buy it now and wait until a patch or two into OOTP9.

As the man with the ridiculously giant signature said, if you can wait, you might as well. Unless you have the extra $30 to spend so you can play for the next month or two, of course.

(Honestly guys, almost 20 lines with full sized text, links and bolding? If it feels like I'm suddenly on a quest for small signatures, it's because I've suddenly noticed so many of you with sigs taking up half of my screen at 1280 by 1024 resolution. This is getting ridiculous.)

It all depends how much time you will spend playing the game.

OOTP9 is probably 6 weeks away from release, at least.

So lets say you play a reasonable one hour a day for the next 40 days, well that's 40 hours of great enjoyment you will get.

It's half the cost of bringing your family to the movies which last about 2 hours.

So in that scenario, you will certainly get your money's worth and learn all about the game and be ready to tackle OOTP9 right on when you get it, transferring your on going league from OOTP8.

When I'm being a sourpuss, I bring up the subject of the usual waiting for patches for much of the rest of the year. OOTP 9 will not be finished until the fall, is the thinking with that attitude.

However, two things are now occurring to me:
  1. I already have OOTP 8 which, with one troublesome exception, works fine and gives a great deal of satisfaction. Given the need for a workaround/compromise to deal with that situation, I can play the heck out of that game until OOTP 9 is finally finished.
  2. Due to the recently renewed activity here in the forums, I find myself curious and excited about the new version. Therefore, I feel an urge for being part of the process, getting into the new game, providing feedback and guidance to developers and noobs alike, and I cannot do that if I don't buy OOTP 9 when it is released.
So, I have the best of both worlds. If you feel you can afford it, buying two excellent baseball simulation games within a few months of each other, I would recommend this strategy to anybody.

I bought it, glad I did. $30 is nothing.

I'm not criticizing or complaining, and yours is far from the worst that I have seen here, but I think some people don't realize that large, bold, and colorful signatures tend to minimize the messages in their posts. I mean, to the point where I catch myself sometimes just reading a signature and wondering what that has to to with the thread topic before I realize that I missed the one-liner above it. Just , don't change it on our account.

Having a ridiculously giant signature is one thing. Being too lazy to check "off" the Show your signature box when make multiple posts in one thread is something else entirely.

No matter what your signature size is, please don't display it more than once per thread.

There's an option that does that? Interesting.

One of the many reasons I've turned signatures off on here. Go into your profile and you can have it so they never show up on posts.

Makes the board so much more pleasant.

LOL (good naturedly). All this time, all these posts, and I never even noticed that option. The problem is, unless it is "sticky," most people are not going to bother on every post to uncheck that box.*

Never noticed that one either. It eliminates all signatures from your view. This might be a keeper.

Now, don't get piqued at Kelric. He may have done what I did, which was to go looking in his user options for one that says "post only one signature per thread" without realizing that it's an option for each individual post, down below. Or maybe he is perhaps much smarter than I am and indeed is being piquant with you.

*Edit: No, it is not "sticky." But look, no signature ↓↓↓↓↓!

I didn't get too piqued off, even though he was being a piquer.

I think this thread has about piqued. Downhill from here!

Edit: Oops. Pardon my signature. There I go again.

I went into my user options. Now that I look in the additional options field, I know I've seen that option before. It just never stuck in my brain.

(Look, ma, no sig!)

Edit - I'm never going to remember to click that thing. And I like seeing other people's signatures, so signatures stay on.

Yes, but that statement was made over a week ago so, if accurate, now it's less than 5 weeks away!

Uh, "at least."
