Why? Basically being able to set the format for the World Baseball classic/World cup is practically the same as setting up a customizeable playoffs with the only diffrence being that you set the season length to 0 games, and then you make all your playoff options how you want it as though you were setting up a new league.

You'll have to wait until Markus gives the Beta Testers the go ahead to talk in detail about the game. No other info, unless Markus posts something, will be forthcoming. That's the way it is with every release.

Hopefully, what I could do for the flexible playoff system is set up the league just like the NHL in the 1980's. For the first two rounds, only divisional rivals would play each other. For example, I would seed the Adams division teams 1-4 and 2-3. This kind of playoff setup was great because you would get great intradivisional rivalries in the playoffs every year. Then in the 3rd round the Adams division champ would play the Patrick division champ to see who gets to the Stanley Cup Finals.
The current 1 through 8 setup works well, but I miss the old divisional setup for this reason. For example, nowadays you might get Tampa Bay vs. Montreal in the first round, which doesn't do much for me. This series would work much better in the conference final because there is much more on the line. This late in the playoffs, the Stanley Cup berth is much more important than the divisional rivarly. |

I ain't holding my breath, but for me it'd be a really nice feature. My ultimate league would involve such a world league that continued to use the assigned baseball 'worthiness' of each country. As some teams began to improve (or decline), I could than manually edit the baseball skill level of those countries. |
