All-Star Game Venues

I have a question about the All-Star Game venues. Why is it that the simulation has picked NL cities three straight years? Is there a way to change this? Is there a way to change whether the NL and AL is the home team?

I think it picks a stadium completely at random. It doesn't know which league the stadium comes from.
You can change the stadium by going in and watching/managing or auto playing the game in the drop down menu on the team setup screen. No to the third question.
Maybe OOTP2008 will change this. As well as having different all-star game formats. Who knows?

The other issue is that there is very little awareness by OOTP about what happened in previous years. The game has no way of knowing where the game was played last season.

There has been discussion in the forums about giving the game more knowledge of what was happening in its own league history, but that is for a future release. The item in this thread would be another good addition in favor of that argument.

In a similar vein... how about having an option to pick spring training venues for each team? Or at least cities?

I have teams in my universe from very cold locations - Anchorage, Winnipeg, Whitehorse, for example. Right now the game uses the team's home field for spring games. I'm not sure if the game uses temperature to influence injury percentages, but it never looks right to have an early March game in Whitehorse when it's 17 degrees and snowing.

An interesting idea. To start, someone would have to design at least one stadium for Arizona and one for Florida. Once this were done, at the very least you could go in and change the stadium on a game-by-game basis.

The next step would be adding a spring training venue option to the league setup - to have spring training games automatically go to the spring training venue.

The downside is that, with each "enhancement" that Markus adds, the game becomes a little larger & a little more cumbersome. Backup files take up still more space, Load times are a little bit longer, etc. Does the benefit outweigh the cost?

Probably the best (and simplest) solution is to create a set of spring training venues and manually switch them at the beginning of each spring training game.

Both spring training sites and split spring training leagues have been suggested before by myself (and others too, before anyone gets the hump). Based on experience, I'd suggest it is unlikely to get in the game.

I made a suggestion along similar lines where you could select up to three different home parks for a team for a given season. One of those selections would be to designate the spring training stadium, the other two are for regular season games (since there have been numerous instances where a major league team played in two different home parks in the same season).

I'd expect, since it's not a critical item, it'll be a version or two before something like that makes it in.

I came across this today too...did you experience this in a historical league? If you did...what years?

I'd be ok with a simpler solution where all spring training games are assumed to be in one of a few generic places like Arizona or Florida, with games played at somewhere like "Anchorage Eskimos Spring Field".
