OOTP 9 quickstart-building the history

1961 won the year that the quickstart begins in. Morsemoose made an excellent suggestion that the league start 10 years before that date (1951) and sim to 1961, in order to build some history up. My original intent was to start in 1961, and sim 10 years.

It's a good enough to poll!

I like the idea of starting play in 1961 a little more. The deadball 60s are better played through than used as a history, I think.

Perhaps, but I thought that the game would begin in 1961, not in 1971, hence the way that I voted. Let the 1950's be the backdrop to that. I will determine how the 1960's play out, in my position of Baseball God.

<--- wonders why the quickstart is set to start in 1971 and not just set to (or at least simmed to) current day.

Not to sound negative, but why not just create the quick start and include it? You have enough info now to do that. Polls about naming which cities is going overboard. If someone doesn't like a particular city, it takes all of a couple minutes to change it to one they do like.

The Polls do NOT measure the majority of OOTP'ers.

All you're doing now is polling the thing to death. Nit picking every little detail is going overboard imo.

Again, no offense meant, just an opinion among the masses.

One reason is because of the paucity of screenshots for this version of OOTP 9. Maybe we can sneak out some screenshots of new stuff. Secondly, I am trying to get it OK'd to post a decade of HTML history reports of the league for public review before release.

So far, I have counted on the enthusiasts to pipe up, and the detractors to move along.

The use of polls stalls for time.

Thanks for the classification, great promotion ploy.

Maybe I am missing something really simple here, but I thought the point of choosing an "era" was so that we could begin play in 1961 and not 10 years later. 1961 was the winner, and as such, it should begin play in 1961. If you are trying to add history, add whatever number of years you feel is appropriate prior to 1961.

By default, the league ought to start in 1961 with no prehistory. The whole point of the quickstart is to allow people to jump in and play. A quickstart that makes them wait half an hour is not really a quickstart. If you do want to sim 10 seasons, sim them before you release the game and include the save.

i'd prefer if it was 1961 and you had ootp include the history up to 1961.

Why not set it up for 1901 and create the history up to 1961? (Feel free to tell me to go away in the colloquial)

Plus, I have a sneaking suspicion that this campaign was also in response to some recent criticism about the lack of official, or semi-official, activity on these boards. If so, the effort is appreciated by this somewhat happier camper, at the very least. If not, the effect is the same.

Start in 51 and sim up to 61 to give some history. That way when folks look at how a player has done over the career there will be something there.

It has the functional equivalent.

Huh

I read that 1961 won, but the poll shows 1951 72% {which I voted for} and 1961 27%.
Something is wrong here !!!!

Re-read the OP. He is referring to a previous poll in which 1961 did indeed win, but now he wants to know whether to start the game in 1961 with 10 years of history going backwards, or use 1961 as the starting point of history simulation and actually have the game start in 1971.

Which reminds me of hanging chads. Trying to overturn electoral results, eh, with this bit of subterfuge? ()

Start the game in 1961, as the other poll indicated!
