Mogul's Wikipedia says: "only currently marketed product play in any season of historical baseball"

I know one should always take caution when using Wikipedia, but I thought this was interesint and just plain wrong:

Quote:
Baseball Mogul 2009, was released March 2008. It is the only currently marketed product that permits play in any season of historical baseball, from 1901 to the present.
Full article here: Baseball Mogul - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In what way could you construe that quote to mean that Mogul does that, but OOTP doesn't?

It may have been the best seller given its price tag and the fact that it's still sold in stores. I don't believe for a second that it's the most profitable (although Clay Dreslough sure doesn't seem to spend a lot of time programming from one version to the next).

It's wikipedia, you can go ahead and correct it if you want. If they wrote it, which they probably did, I imagine they'd say they mean something which is true, but they probably chose that wording on purpose to make it sound like it was the only product currently available that does that. But is OOTP8 "currently marketed"? I don't know, I guess it depends on one's definition of marketed. Maybe something about the only product released so far this year that does that is more accurate.

Well, best selling PC baseball game... there weren't that many. OOTP, Puresim and Mogul. Can't think of another.

And it says they sold 100k copies. Which is really impressive. I have no clue what the actual numbers are, but I would guess OOTP sells far less than a quarter of that.

Strat-O-Matic, APBA Baseball for Windows, Cactus League Interactive Baseball, Diamond Mind Baseball, Dynasty League Baseball, Action! PC Baseball. That's a number of them right there, most of which have large customer bases and have been around for much longer than OOTP, Puresim or Mogul. But they're hard-core stats-based sims and are not designed primarily for career play like the latter have been.

Please take any claims of Baseball Mogul's uniqueness or statistical fidelity with a grain of salt larger than Mt. Everest.

I guarantee if you edit the entry, it'll get changed back pretty quick, inaccurate or not. There will be some Mogul mark keeping an eye on that page and will change anything back.

I edited an entry for something recently. My entry was entirely accurate. Somebody removed it, then the SAME IP ADDRESS wrote their OWN version of the information that was, barring one word, the same as mine.

Well, I think it's technically true, in that Mogul is the only one that has come to an arrangement with Lahman for database inclusion. But I could be wrong.

And, as tree pointed out, he claimed to have invented something he didn't.... not DIPS, but FIPS. And then his response when Tango was brought up was something that could be paraphrased as "What's a Tangotoger? Never heard of him. I can't take this seriously without this supposed person having a real name."

What can I say? I really thought that word just wasn't right.

I think it because you think OOTP only sold 25,000 copies. I would imagine it sold more but I dont know.

Well, they can claim whatever they want... every game can sell 100k copies if itīs $1.99 at Walmart These NPD stats do not mean a thing.

I'd be pretty surprised if it did. It would be awesome, but I just don't think so. Sadly, too few people have even heard of OOTP. The marketing for this game is practically non-existent.

I wouldn't pay $1.99 for that game.
